    Advice to Management

Make management a lateral move rather than a promotion/vertical move. Some folks are meant to lead others, some folks don't even want to.

I worked at APCO Worldwide full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

APCO is a global company so there is potential for access and exposure to working with global clients and colleagues.

    Cons

Extreme politics in the India office right from the level of MD and senior staff. Apple polishers are openly appreciated and rewarded - not talent. It takes very thick skin to survive the dog eat dog environment especially since it is a small office with hardly about 15 client servicing staff. Unfortunately such an unhealthy atmosphere also undermines the advantage that a global company brings with it in terms of exposure to better assignments - bosses faff to the client, the favourites are made the 'faces' on these projects, while an unfortunate few slog behind the scenes to keep the clients happy. Increments and bonuses are also heavier for the favourites. The unlucky ones receive the left overs. APCO India has also witnessed a very high annual attrition rate under current MD since last five years. Again not a good sign for an organization.

    Advice to Management

Please understand that such a poisonous atmosphere should not be allowed to thrive. It is not sustainable in the long run for the reputation of the company in India.

    Pros

Good exposure as you would have to apply yourself differently under dynamic circumstances and situations.

    Cons

You have to ask for the kind of work you would love to do while at APCO.

    Advice to Management

Be more connected with colleagues at the bottom of the pyramid to understand their motivation level and ways to improve it by addressing every possible aspets including financial aspects as well.

I worked at APCO Worldwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, great office, work can be interesting, travel, everyone can have a say

    Cons

Favoritism, low-pay, questionable clients, demanding, equal environment

    Advice to Management

Work on weeding out favoritism and creating a comfortable environment for all political affiliations. Remember actions speak louder than words. Also, payment needs to align with market and would be interested to see what efforts have been done to promote equal and fair pay. Having a fair and no office politics review system. Take care in what clients you select.
