    Pros

great technology and a great office space in downtown Vancouver

    Cons

CEO and CFO are really only concerned with lining their own pockets. Most of SR Mgmt is subservient to them and walk around on egg shells

    Advice to Management

Replace the CEO and CFO bring in new leadership that cares about building a company and rewarding its people for success

    Pros

A free cookie once per week.

    Cons

Poor examples of leadership. All lip-service to keep employee retention.

    Advice to Management

Consider what it feels like to be an employee here with no big picture and low morale. There is a reason that nobody really smiles.

I worked at Absolute full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Newer tools, technology, good product, nice office and location.

    Cons

Processes lack completeness and mid-term vision is not stable. Too many Scrum teams that don't attempt enough to cooperate and work together, only when things go wrong they jump on to fix. There doesn't seem to be a "lessons learned" strategy, the same mistakes are carried on from release to release.

    Advice to Management

Too many teams work in parallel for the same release, and they don't cooperate as needed. There isn't a real and efficient emphasis on making people think and act for the "Product" and not only for the "Team". Most people are quite fit to their positions and their roles, however, the big number of teams working for releases seems to diminish their efficiency and performance.

    I worked at Absolute full-time

    Pros

Conveniently located near Burrard station. Don’t need to get wet by taking the underground passage.

    Cons

Absolute is not competitive with the market compensation-wise, bonus-wise, perks-wise, culture-wise and to some degree benefits-wise. The company’s stock is flat but the hierarchy isn’t. It’s very top heavy with layers of VPs and directors, managers of this and that. Some of these individuals are very smart and I admire them but for all this brainpower the HMS Absolute is changing course too often (features and... releases in flux) and many of the crew in the lower decks have lost faith. Absolute doesn't use the newest tech stack and the tech debt is high. You probably won’t be practicing your modern skill sets here. You’re blocked a lot and things move so slowly you'll quickly get bored. Process is gradually improving but compared to other companies, everything seems 5 times harder and still nowhere near continuous delivery. Lots of meetings but little to show for them. Almost all go off track and need to be held again as a result. Some even devolve into contests of who can talk louder. Work is done in silos mostly and there is not much communication across teams despite the critical interdependencies of our contributions. The other reviews here about office toxicity and needing to be a yes man to thrive at Absolute are factual from what I saw. In fact I saw entirely way too much to write about here. Just Google ‘telltale signs of bad company culture’ and know that you’ll witness many of these here on a frequent basis. It can be a political battle scene some days and you have to thrive in such to enjoy the place. Many of the good, talented people that were here have jumped ship, which is not surprising really. Each person has his or her own reasons but the high attrition rate is a sign of a deeper problem. YOU CAN DO FAR BETTER at just about any other company but if you do choose to interview here insist on a full circle tour of all floors during regular work hours. Take in the atmosphere. Search for genuinely happy people and other aspects that matter to you and decide if this is a place you can see yourself spending 8 hours a day. And if you decide to join, come back to all these reviews after your honeymoon period and see if they still hold true.

I have been working at Absolute full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good Vancouver downtown location Friendly co-workers Easy work - too easy Some smart people to learn from

    Cons

Communications between teams are poor and inefficient. Too many politics. Too many managers. Too many meetings without solving real problems. Very slow-paced. Too many old school engineers.

    StarStarStarStarStar

I have been working at Absolute

    Pros

Various stuffs to learn during the term. Teams are so interactive, and you may need multiple knowledges to complete the work.

    Cons

It is a big company, so there are quite many work dependencies from other teams. This might slow you down on learning.

I worked at Absolute full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good people to work with, lots of lunches provided. Flexibility work hours, able to work from home some days.

    Cons

Management was not great, short staffed and work was stressful trying to meet SLA. No training what so ever, pay was sub par but other positions did pay well. I guess it's who you know

    Advice to Management

Try to check on your employees and take feedback when they ask for help and listen well.

    I worked at Absolute full-time

    Pros

    fun work environment and outtings.

    Cons

way too many bosses running around. too much bureaucracy and not enough delegation or organization.

    Advice to Management

Slash the complex titles. Keep it simple. Organize more to work as a team rather than so misconstrued. Focus more on teamwork and binding the parts of the company together
