I have been working at Airbnb for more than a year

    Pros

I've been with Airbnb Plus, as a freelance photographer, since May of 2018. It was a fun opportunity and taking the actual photos of the host's homes are great! Most people are happy to see you and it's great to check out new homes and meet new people.

    Cons

You're supposed to get paid on the 10th and 25th of each month. Since starting I've received either late or incorrect payments for shoots. Varghese, the customer service person (and the only real person we have contact with) tells you time after time they're working on processing payments correctly. Sadly, it's March of 2019 and they have consistently underpaid me for shoots and I've had to wait until the next pay date (weeks later) to receive the rest of the incorrect or missing payment. I bring this up month after month and it's just tiring. I explained to them that I'm a photographer, not a collections agent but they don't seem to care. I've also thought I'd have a lot more shoots scheduled and in 1 year, I've grossed a little over $12k. That's pretty bad. I had one busy month, December, when I think they gave hosts the ability to book free shoots. I've also noticed one out of every three hosts, cancel shoots. Sure, you get paid 1/2 for the shoot if it's within 24 hours, but often-times that's not the case. And then, if they do re-schedule it's never with you. Also, the place where we have to upload photos is a program I have to re-download almost every week. It's pretty bad.

I have been working at Airbnb for more than 8 years

    Pros

A great company to work for. Since starting in January 2010 the flow and structure of the service has grown tremendously. At first it was kind of the wild west of photography. You really took it in your own hands contacting the hosts blindly and showing up at a strangers house to photograph their bedrooms and such. But over the years Airbnb has become a household name. And living in this area of Florida always gives way to new listings every week. After 9 years now and almost 1000 listings I have had a great experience with the company overall. The Photo Management Department has changed hands many many many of times since then. And the requirements for photographing and editing has reached a high level of skill. Not anyone just out of school or with a camera will survive without having a good understanding of Architectural Photography and also Customer Service skills. As you spend a good amount of time coordinating with hosts and also in person when documenting their homes as a representative of the company. I don't look at this as a contract job in a negative light. I run a commercial photography business already and this is just an addition amount of income for me yearly. On average over the years I pull in around 30k a year in work. Some years a bit more. It all depends upon the amount of new hosts looking for the service. The pay scale has over doubled since I started. It's dependent on the area you live in and the amount of space that is being photographed. But on average it is between $95 - 125.00 a listing. Which after doing it now for 9 years is fairly good price point for a few hours of work in a day (45 min to shoot - 45 min to edit - some driving time). If you're efficient and knowing what you're doing it will be a smooth process.

    Cons

None that I have. There have been times where work was slow for a month or so. But that was not so much on Airbnb but the hosts in the area not requesting photography.

I have been working at Airbnb for more than 5 years

    Pros

With Airbnb you'll have the freedom to play around, the guidance to shoot to brief and to guidelines.

    Cons

The workload is unpredictable and not consistent. guidelines and payments can be confusing. Communication is not very efficient and referents can change very often.

I have been working at Airbnb for more than a year

    Pros

Constant work, improved pay since I first started, jobs are really simple to execute.

    Cons

Still pays well below market value for a freelance photographer, and as someone else has mentioned, there's no system in place for customers to log testimonials or any other sort of metric to know how well you're doing.

I worked at Airbnb for more than 5 years

    Pros

Seeing nice places, meeting nice people, practicing good real-estate photography and getting paid for it. It got me out of the house and allowed me to keep my skills sharp and equipment up to date. What's not to like?

    Cons

Was dropped abruptly and without explanation in June 2917, by email. Clients liked me and my work, and several were left hanging by this event. They told me Airbnb did not make a replacement photographer available. I don't think this was an isolated event, as I have seen similar comments elsewhere from about the same time.
