I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I was fortunate to work at several excellent oil companies during my years in the energy industry but my time at Anadarko was particularly agreeable. Management was fair and even handed. Company values and policies were taken seriously from the top to the bottom of the organization. I was always able to honestly say that I was proud to be associated with Anadarko Petroleum.

    Cons

I am hard pressed to cite serious downfalls of working at Anadarko. Although quite large, it was small enough to be frequently the target of take-over speculation. Some employees may have lived under constant dread that Anadarko would be acquired and they would lose their jobs. It was recently announced that Chevron will acquire Anadarko. Having previously been through corporate take-overs I can reassure people...

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Anadarko invests heavily in their employees, providing many opportunities to grow and develop as a professional. This includes setting annual goals for yourself and offering classes for development. What I enjoy the most about Anadarko is how involved they are with the community. They truly care about people, the community and the environment. I have never worked for a company that has invested so much time and effort...

      Cons

A very corporate atmosphere, which is good to some and not to others. There seems to be consistent management and departmental changes. However, with a large international industry, this is to be somewhat expected.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Combine PTO with 9/80 schedule and paid holidays and you work less days than a school teacher. Great bonus program and benefits package. Peer leading maternity/paternity leave. If you have the unfortunate luck of being marooned in Midland you are paid a 25% “geographic premium” which means a big fat paycheck, and the bar for Midland employees’ work product is pretty low. A culture that fosters physical fitness, I.e. beautiful...

      Cons

Management at all levels are inept, which is shocking given the size of the company. Corporate culture went in the crapper in the downturn and never recovered. Midland office debacle. Denver office in peril of closing.

      Advice to Management

Clean house and lower and middle levels and reorganize executive level.
