    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Analysis Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great snacks. Great benefits, especially health care coverage. Smart people.

    Cons

As noted in prior reviews, managers can get away with bad behavior and nothing is done about it. You will lose a ton of good people if you do not have accountability for bad management. It is short sighted to keep one bad manager around and lose numerous lower level people. Abusive behavior should not be tolerated, and even rewarded, the way it currently is.

    Advice to Management

FIRE BAD PEOPLE. Respect lower level employees. Do not promote people who treat others badly.

I have been working at Analysis Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting casework and some nice, smart people

    Cons

AG claims that it invests a lot in its employees. There are many formalities in place, such as the formal review system, the advising system, various training sessions, etc. However, when it comes to promotion or compensation decisions, the process is often opaque and biased towards people who are better supported/advocated by the senior management. Great work is not always acknowledged, and sometimes people develop implicit...

    Advice to Management

As the firm grows, think harder about how to improve the fairness and transparency in the review system.

I worked at Analysis Group full-time

    Pros

A few nice people; A few smart people; Promotion for loyalty

    Cons

Extremely clique-y; The constant battle between Ph.D.s (sophisticated but lack of real management skills) and MBAs (good communication but cannot produce or consume complex analysis)

    Advice to Management

There are many different ways to succeed at AG, but it is safe to assume it involves intellect, self promotion, and having the right people on your side who can give you opportunities. The pyramid structure (a few partners, lots of mid-layer VPs and managers) can be a set-up-to-fail model, as it leads to hunger game/zero sum game situation when you know only the fittest (fit for AG that is) will survive. Lateral hires...

I worked at Analysis Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Culture is great although I only know about the LA and CHI offices. Work hard play hard, good perks, you can earn a flexible schedule. Hours are demanding but the bonus structure encourages/rewards long hours so if you're a go getter you can make great money right out of school. Learning environment is amazing - really smart people at all levels. Teaches you really valuable technical and written skills that will...

    Cons

Your hours/work/etc is basically in the hands of lawyers or expert witnesses. Not a ton of room for super creative thinking. Can be very annoying at times but definitely teaches you about how the consulting world works.

    Advice to Management

You can be doing the work of an associate but you can't get promoted past senior analyst without an advanced degree. This does a good job preventing totals duds from rising the ranks but also probably imposes some adverse selection - the best people who don't need an MBA will leave. I've seen this happen five times that I can think of.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Analysis Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are a lot of smart people and good variety of case work.

    Cons

It's easy to get stuck with cases that drag on for years and frequently require grueling hours. Also, it's easy to end up with a lack of variety of case work. There is a strong culture of nepotism at the firm which I found discouraging.

    Advice to Management

Try to staff such that analysts have lighter work weeks between excruciating deadlines. The non-managed labor market for analysts can mean that some analysts never get to work on the cases they might have liked to.

"Not the same as it used to be"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at Analysis Group

    Pros

Analysis Group deserves its top shelf reputation. It has smart people who work hard. It used to go a great job in investing in its staff.

    Cons

Your experience can depend a lot on who you work with, and management decisions can seem capricious.

    Advice to Management

    Walk the talk.

I have been working at Analysis Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Smart people, good work, great opportunity to work with some of the biggest academicians. Pay is competitive, and benefits are OK.

    Cons

You have to work with lawyers often. Tight deadlines, and work gets crazy occasionally - but that's part of the job. Management is bad and believes in sucking up to partners.

    Advice to Management

Promote people on merit and not for 'yes man'. Provide opportunity for new graduates who are more current to lead analytical projects.

"Good place to start a career"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at Analysis Group

    Pros

Well-known and respected firm with lots of smart people. Nice offices in good locations. Lots of great perks, including a fully stocked kitchen, office ski trip, and office Christmas party.

    Cons

Very political. Hard to work across practice areas. Promotions seem lock-step, even though the firm claims otherwise, so hard work and high performance is not always recognized. Salaries not always competitive.

    Advice to Management

Be more competitive with salaries to retain top talent. Provide time for Analysts to work on thought leadership and attend conferences and other professional development activities.
