Amazing place - academic environment, research oriented, process focused
1 Jun 2023 - Senior Director in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
If you like technology and quant, and want to focus on those things and work at a place where such focus is valued, this is the place to be. I have been a technologist / quant at two other financial services firms - generally speaking, many financial services firm operate quarter to quarter, over-focused on short-term profits at the cost of long-term performance and take technology/quant investment as an afterthought. None of those things are true here - people at very senior levels on the business side often code themselves or were recently coders, understand technology architecture and design, and know that investing in that (both people and infrastructure) is critical.
Cons
A bit of an academic, research oriented environment - may not be for everyone.

Low Pay, Long Hours, Harsh Personalities
31 May 2023 - Quantitative Developer in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
18 dollar daily lunch credit.
Cons
Pay is very low, lowest in the industry. Hours are very long. Technology is very old. No innovation. Managers are clueless. Stain on resume...

Untrustworthy, manipulative and controlling
26 Feb 2023 - Software EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great inter-department relationships. The organizational structure and division makes it really difficult to bring any other positives to the forefront.
Cons
Untrustworthy, manipulative and controlling. Everything you do is monitored. Literally the worst and most unreasonable infrastructure policies in place ever experienced. It's quite obvious and telling that the latest 5 star (5 star, 5 star etc.. you get the point) raving reviews are fake. This company threatens their employees against every possible public exposure that isn't on their terms. They are threatening on so many other levels, too, just to be transparent. Who in their right mind, who claims to be so happy and satisfied by an employer, would risk their job with a company that explicitly forbids publicity. It's forbidden regardless of the context, good or bad. Oh, wait, the inner workings of certain leadership trying to suck up and appeal to untrustworthy owners and management.

So many benefits, and a strong, strategic firm
13 Feb 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Starting with the obvious benefits: The firm covers an outstanding 95% of premiums for health insurance. For every day I'm in the office, I get an $18 lunch credit toward firm-connected food vendors (like Sweetgreen and other local restaurants). There's a hybrid work model, so I can work from home two days a week. The Boston office location is central to everything and you cannot beat the view out of any window! But beyond the obvious benefits, everything about the work is strategic -- it all points back to the mission in a transparent and practical way. And one of the most important benefits is that it seems like upper management really cares about employee engagement and investing in the growth of their employees.
Cons
None come to mind at the moment

Overall decent place to work but depends on what you're looking for
7 Mar 2023 - Engineer in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Job security, decent benefits, lots of trust in the work you're asked to do
Cons
Flat title admin structure (Associate, Manager, Partner) which stunts career progression when comparing externally - this seems to have been fixed as I see previous coworkers updating their titles. Disorganization in terms of priorities (depends on your leadership) Lots of institutional knowledge and unnecessary politics

Pros
-Fun team -Free lunches -Everyone super welcoming and helpful in answering any questions
Cons
honestly can't think of any

Pros
Luring pay, promise of work life balance? Grasping at straws here. Oh, their insurance is good.
Cons
Almost everything, actually. This company has the most toxic culture I've ever worked for. It's impossible, and not permitted in this forum, to get into all facets and intricacies within each department as to why because it would be too direct toward individuals. To get anything done you have to play a game and you must be in the in. Tiptoeing around colleagues and partners is par for the course, otherwise, it's a war, not just a battle. Aggressive and demeaning personalities win for some reason, some of whom have been employed for way to long; others who I hardly knew who had just joined before my departure (paint the picture of who they want in their “culture”). Hardworking, kind, and smart people lose. Intelligence, with constant hair on fire and "it's all about me" attitude, will eventually lose in the long run. Intelligence, methodology and outcomes typically win the game long term and will in many other companies. That combination is unlikely to thrive here. It's a sad state of affairs at Arrowstreet. Choose wisely in determining your next adventure. If this is the culture you align yourself with in life, then by all means embrace it. It isn’t and will never be mine and we’ll certainly never get along if we cross paths. It can't go unmentioned that they hide behind culture on their remote policy. It is nothing more than a sham that most corporations put up to control the reset of society.

Quant investment management done right
9 Jan 2023 - Quantitative ResearcherRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Intellectually stimulating work in a supportive environment where the best idea wins. The team is smart, friendly, and collaborative. Managers balance intellectual rigor with practicality, and are transparent about their decision making. Small company means my individual projects actually make a difference. Lots of opportunities for learning and career growth. Prestigious firm that will look good on my resume if I ever leave. Good work-life balance.
Cons
Sophisticated models make for challenging work. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up. Work from home allowance is okay but not great.

Pros
Great benefits. Great culture. Great work/life balance.
Cons
None that I can think of.

A Thoughtful Strategic Firm That Genuinely Cares About Employees
2 Dec 2022 - AnonymousRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Over the last year the firm has intentionally evolved the company and invested in key areas. Employees are supported with trainings, and resources to help them expand their skills. Employees are encouraged to develop themselves and their careers within the firm. Management generally cares about doing what is right for the client as well as the employee. Compensation is competitive and benefits are comprehensive. Employees, managers, and executives are friendly and welcoming. There is a strong focus on how we can collectively be better and openness to new ideas. Great work life balance.
Cons
Some normal growing pains as the company grows, scales, and evolves.
