Great Culture, Great Products
10 Feb 2023 - Regulatory Affairs Specialist IIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Culture is nourished and management values people highly. Smaller company means you get to wear more hats. Autonomy over your time as much as possible.
Cons
Smaller company means your carry a heavier load. Pay is slightly below average I've heard. Leadership is stretched thin and not really available.
- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
It was a good place to work.
Cons
Lay offs, not too many bad things to say.

Downward Trajectory Further Tanked by a Buyout
15 Apr 2022 - Anonymous Employee in Austin, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Asuragen used to be a mostly good company, in tune with it's employees. They handled the pandemic work-life fairly well and sent most everyone home that could work from home. Health insurance is a little above average, includes dental and vision. 401k match is about average for biotech. Sometimes there's for leftover food from visitors' meetings.
Cons
Asuragen used to be a wonderful big-little company but they sold their culture and small company feel for a boring, corporate atmosphere all for the sake of being acquired. The company was bought at the beginning of 2021 by an absolutely awful company (Bio-techne) that could not care less about their satellite companies like Asuragen. The year or two leading up to the buyout, Asuragen strategically cut tons of funding for culture and positive work-life stuff as well as two very large lay-offs to "trim the fat". Once the buyout was complete, the parent company broke every promise of additional funding and management flexibility. Career movement was offered only for Bio-techne employees, not Asuragen. Local management either doesn't care about their employees and hides behind Bio-techne or is stifled by BT, ignoring the pandemic and forcing employees on site when local conditions advise against. Asuragen loves to tout "promotion from within" and to be fair, they actually did in the past; But now they rarely allow employees the opportunity to move up. Part of the problem is they refuse to allow movement for people lacking an appropriate degree level, ignoring the "or equivalent work experience" part of the job description. Essentially, if you get hired, don't expect to advance your career more than a level. The other part is management often makes decisions without considering the affected teams. Although the benefits are above average, actual salary compensation is below. It's cheaper for them to pay a few dollars in disability and exclaim you have all these additional benefits than actual pay competitively. In summation, Asuragen is a great company to work at for a short stint in order to get experience for your resume. Do not turn it into a dead-end "career".
