      Fantastic staff, Reprehensible Management

      Pros

Nice environment to work on Surrey Research Park (but with poor traffic access). Fantastic staff (at the grass roots). Important work being done. Interesting clients. Reasonable remuneration/package. Online Training Courses. Felt proud to work for the company.

      Cons

Treat Staff purely as a resource. Limited training, apart from online courses. Restructure / Redundancies every 18 months. Staff have to 'maneuver' themselves to ensure they are not in the firing line or maneuver other people INTO the firing line to save their own jobs. To many inexperienced graduates thinking they can manage projects. The company can't work out if its a consultancy or box shifter. Poor handling of software projects due to lack of understanding of requirements with cost/time over runs, with many unhappy customers. A company known in the industry to be on the way out, only supported by BAE Systems to ensure it has a finger in the digital market to support its big ticket Hardware Sales. Bottom Line Some strong positives with fantastic staff, but outweighed by catastrophically bad senior leadership/HR management. (see common thread throughout Glassdoor reviews). The company is run by the numbers game with a high turn over of staff (well above industry standard). Loyalty and flexibility is ultimately rewarded by redundancy. If your looking for a professional long term career (employment) look elsewhere.

      Pros

You get to work with the smartest people in the business. Projects are mostly well funded and well managed.

      Cons

Given the secure nature of the work, clearances are required. Being a consultancy, travel is a requirement.

Hey fishes I know it's kinda depressing but that's what I am into so it's been months now with Amazon and I've working in a new role learning great stuff but here's the catch I don't have anyone to contact with like people here don't reply if you ask for help and if you even call out like they defend by saying they're busy . Forget favors they don't reply to "hey". I have total 2 yrs of exp so barely saw work culture at office. But I wanna ask is this normal or I'm overthinking.

      Pros

-Great for networking and getting out in the industry -Worked with some great people on really interesting projects -Great exposure and stepping stone to other work

      Cons

-Struggling to keep good people -Trying to become more of a typical big consultancy with a bigger focus on getting people on any role rather than the right one. Too often people are left in roles they don't want and end up quitting -Salaries are not competitive -Company growth strategy appears to not be working and this has meant low bonuses, pay rises and a general low moral

      Pros

Great work life balance and big focus internally to ensure you are not over worked. Lovely london office ideal location Very well respected amongst clients Huge presence in public sector People are great make time for you when needed Lots of socials internally and externally

      Cons

Very much a not about what you know more about who you know and it’s openly said by managers. Opps is a complete joke, actually have no idea what they do. Forget asking about new roles it’s all about who you know. Pipeline is very limited in pure consultancy type projects, you are commonly supporting PM’s on delivery led projects. Salary is quite poor, hence the high turnover of consultants you would think this would give HR an indication maybe we should review what our competitors pay who are snapping up all the good talent. Overall consultancy is quite immature lacks structure, and sense of direction people don’t even know what’s the difference between BA offering and a BC offering

Jack of all trades, master of none.

Feb 19, 2018 - Head of PMO in London, England, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

This business has serious potential to be a world leader in its field. It has a giant of a parent company, willing to pump billions into it; however, the parent company knows nothing about cyber security or consultancy and so simply trusts the AI management to make the correct and most profitable decisions by itself. Also, the work-life balance is fine as work is somewhat scarce of late. Free kitkats, coffee and fruit are also a nice touch.

      Cons

The culture of this business has turned poisonous, with senior management earning 100k+ suddenly attempting to justify their positions by snatching work, responsibilities and credit from their subordinates and then dismissing these via redundancy. The business is currently akin to "The Hunger Games" with people trying to either save their own skin and being vicious about it, or else people down tools, stop work and wait for the axe to fall upon them.

      Pros

There are some smart engineers and consultants still here. A selection of good projects.

      Cons

      - lost its engineering excellence - loss making for the past few years - no gender equality - poor graduate scheme - extremely overpaid directors for doing more business and engineering harm than good for the company and its customers - very delusional company vision - have no idea how to create products neither to provide consultancy or bespoke solutions

Being run into the ground and nobody cares.

Jul 28, 2017 - Anonymous Employee in London, England, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Working for AI you will have some exceptionally talented and dedicated colleagues and have the chance of working on interesting and challenging projects, for clients that you'd be unlikely to get at other firms. However, the talent is being driven away by management who value conformity and mediocrity over creativity and excellence, and the commercial clients have been driven away by the imposition of the parent company strategy.

      Cons

Whilst once there was an interesting and large variety of clients across all industry sectors the counterproductive name change from Detica to BAE Applied Intelligence brought with it a retrenchment into the core defence business and almost all the commercial work disappeared, with no likelihood of ever getting any more. Over time the Big Defence Consultancy has subsumed or killed everything that made Detica such a fantastic company and now it is another soulless consultancy run by suits. You could spend your entire career on a client site, never seeing your actual colleagues. Most of the work you will made unnecessarily more difficult than it need be by a combination of excessive and inappropriate process, overmanning, toxic clients, and ineffective managers who singularly fail to manage their expectations. It is an epidemic: budgets for creating the actual product will be squeezed so that hundreds of project managers can be parachuted in to a client to hoover up all the money. Very few of these managers seem to offer any value whatsoever. In an effort to claw back some profit development will be outsourced to inexperienced and incorrectly-skilled juniors (in increasing numbers) rather than the talented people who could actually make things succeed. Management is very top-down and the fee-earners have no say in what happens to them. A bad word from a manager can destroy a career. Staff are lied to, mis-sold onto projects, set up to fail and then screwed when it comes to bonuses and pay rises. Reviews are a box-ticking exercise designed to prevent anyone ever making career process. It doesn't matter how good you are, how hard you work, how many millions you make for the company or how many of your objectives you hit. Career progression depends entirely on who you know and how little you rock the boat.

Long on cons with one or two pros

Jun 30, 2017 - Anonymous Employee in New York, NY

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Zero stress. Super relaxed working environment. Nobody works more than 40 hours a week and nobody checks email during off hours. EMEA gets a ridiculous amount of vacation time, which on one hand seems unfair to Americas employees, but the flipside is that nothing happens whatsoever for all of August and December so it's like a working vacation for Americans. Overall a great place to work if you're not ambitious or just want to take a career break for a while.

      Cons

An absurd amount of bureaucracy. It's impossible to get anything done. This is a defense contractor, so if you're used to working for a commercial organization get ready to be shocked. If you're coming from a startup you wonder if you stepped into a vortex to an alternate universe. Corporate communications are atrocious and the board is disengaged and aloof. Culture is a mess. They bought two commercial software startups that were high growth market leaders and managed to run both businesses into the ground and drive away all of the talent they acquired. Every A player from Norkom and SilverSky from the execs to the rank and file is now gone. Most of the B talent has left as well. A lot of the A talent from Detica remains to this day, so it seems that Ai is destined to be a prestigious, low margin, steady growth consultancy. Which is actually fine if that's what they want to be, it just makes no sense whatsoever to try to incubate software companies in that environment.
