      Good company, bad management

      Pros

The company itself is perfectly fine. The pay is good.

      Cons

Poor management. The company has been slashing employee benefits for the better part of 10 years. Started with getting rid of pensions, then profit sharing because "the employees didn't want it," they must recently got rid of a program that would allow employees to "buy" an extra week of vacation. This came after a survey was sent out for employees for what they would like to see from the company moving forward. The second most mentioned thing was more PTO. Talk about tone deaf. Upper management is just generally out of touch.

Stay away from BAE Systems, York PA

      Pros

      Salary. BAE Systems pays well.

      Cons

The good ol boy network is alive and well in York. Upper Management are so disconnected with daily operations. A 100% "reactive" instead of "pro-active" organization that results in "finger-pointing" and the "blame game" when things go wrong-which is daily, weekly, and monthly. A lack of knowledge, forecasting, and change in Supply Chain operations are the sole reason 30% of material cannot be received or there is a 70% backlog of material to be inspected resulting in numerous programs over budget and late. The same management that led BAE Systems, York, to lose $m's over the past 3+ years are the same employees making the same unsound business decisions now. Leadership is running out of people to blame other than themselves.

It was a job, but not a particularly good one

      Pros

My immediate coworkers and manager were very nice people and enjoyable to work with. I could schedule my own hours, which was pretty great.

      Cons

There was very little in the way of direction or structure from my manager, which was nice but the lack of a concrete goal really left me feeling lost sometimes. I never had the feeling that upper management even knew I existed, much less would want to hire me full-time even though everyone told me I did good work and multiple coworkers went to bat for me repeatedly. The general air of the location I worked at was a "meh, we'll get to it eventually" sort of attitude. People outside of my office were very difficult to ever get in contact with, and that made it virtually impossible to ever get any sizable projects completed.

      Pros

-Work culture is laid back and lax -People are generally helpful even if on different teams and departments -Exposure and ability to work on/with military vehicles and weapon systems -Various company sites throughout the US and ability to travel to other company sites but also vendor sites and military testing sites

      Cons

-Lots of disconnects between the middle/upper management and working teams -Bad communication and cohesion with engineering, manufacturing, assembling, testing teams, etc. leading to delays on various portions of a project -Govt. contracts are never stable, many projects are pushed to the right (delayed) without additional budget -Travel can be suddenly announced with little context or preparation
