I have been working at BASF full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very large corporation, well-shielded from the ups and downs of market. Excellent salary and compensation (health ins, 401(k) etc).

    Cons

Large, matrix-managed organization which can be a bit cumbersome and may be stifling to some.

I have been working at BASF full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

BASF provides it's employees with benefits to a level I have not seen in other organizations. The 401k match is better than I have ever seen, vacation time is better than the national average, flexible work from home schedules are available in many positions and the general atmosphere among other employees is positive

    Cons

It is a large company so it can take a long time to get some things done in the organization. Some positions require a lot of travel, so it can be difficult for people with families, but the job descriptions are usually accurate when it comes to specified travel.

I worked at BASF full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Freedom, Global team work experience, Empowerment, patient co-workers, little or less reporting, good training programs, capable of implementing some idea into reality. work-life balance

    Cons

low pay in average, can't really do something successful which beneficial to your personal career development, lack of customer and result-oriented culture especially in engineering and quality team.

    Advice to Management

Disable matrix management organization and review system between regional and local team. No one can completely make decision to do some right thing throughly, therefore, local top management can only do something surficial.

I have been working at BASF full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Supportive management is more than willing to invest in their employees development - Flexibility to move across the organization allows you to try many different industries all under one roof - Smart, motivated, and passionate coworkers who care about the quality of their work - Pay is above market - Great retirement and education benefits

    Cons

    - Somewhat competitive environment is not a good fit for everyone - Many internal processes and methods are not consistent across the organization - Because so many groups/people were brought in through acquisition it is difficult to have a consistent culture, moving across divisions can feel like joining an entirely new company

    Advice to Management

Keep working to build a consistent culture across the entire organization without being overbearing.

I have been working at BASF full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great work environment Great People - vast majority are interested in establishing and maintaining productive work relationships Great Benefits - Healthcare, Tuition Reimbursement, Strong 401K Flexible work arrangements (virtual office is an option for some roles) Work life balance Option to spend 3 to 5 years working abroad or overseas

    Cons

Company wants to see you spend 3 years in your role before moving on. However, there is a steady flow of employees who spend as little as one year in their roles before moving on. Promotions are based on management favorites Must have a chemical background (chemistry or chemical engineering) for most roles Limited opportunities for minorities... you have to be white to be noticed Most jobs call for technical experience...

    Advice to Management

If Company Policy allows for movement in 3 years, please do not force employees to pay meaningless "taxes" in their role for longer than they have to. Expand virtual work options for non-production roles such as sales, product management, supply chain, marketing etc. Commit to better utilizing employee skills to improve your business.

I have been working at BASF full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for development and growth in your career. You have a chance to move up the ladder or take lateral moves. You can choose to have a job with lots of depth of knowledge (subject matter expert) or you can take a path to broader skill set with experts on your team. If you want to work abroad or move around within the US, that is all possible as well. Pretty much there is a fit for just about anyone....

    Cons

If you want to move up, you need to be mobile. This is true for most global companies, but especially true of BASF. It is a very large company so with that comes bureaucracy. Work loads can be difficult to maintain a healthy work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the policies for developing talent. This is a best practice. However, with that, thinning down workforce and adding that work to remaining employees shoulders is tough. That will impede long term retention.

I worked at BASF full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

An Industry leader with tons of resources, and an extremely smart / professional workforce. Very strong company values and strong management teams.

    Cons

Being so large, lots of bureaucracy which can make it difficult to move up. A little bit old-fashioned / close-minded compared to equivalent US companies. Minimal life/work balance, although that seems to be changing. Either way, they demand a lot and employees seem constantly stressed, overloaded and overworked (more so than others considering that's the situation everywhere). Pay is probably at or slightly above industry...

    Advice to Management

Considering the unlimited resources and cash on hand, increase headcount to promote more work / life balance and lessen the load for individuals and certain business units.
