I worked at BASF full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good pay, insurance, and many smaller benefits like health club reimbursement, fitness trackers that reward you($), etc. Good work live balance, but that may be up to each department head. Everything is safety first.

    Cons

Like many large companies, there is much bureaucracy and paperwork. They seem to buy and sell divisions a lot. I've heard a joke that BASF stands for Buys And Sells Factories. If you don't set a new $$record this year it's "OMG the sky is falling, we've got to tighten our belts"

I worked at BASF full-time for more than a year

        Pros

All the pros are for BASF, and not their San Diego location. - BASF has a positive name recognition in the Chemical industry (none in biotech though), which may help in future moves. - Benefits (NOT salary): Top notch for the chemical industry, and pretty competitive in biotech - Large company provides opportunity to move to different functions if you are willing to relocate. - If you are a chemist, BASF is a good...

        Cons

Most are specific to the San Diego location. - BASF Enzymes is a subsidiary of BASF. It's still the same old, poorly run startup (Verenium-acquired by BASF) that it once was. - Low pay: San Diego salaries are significantly below biotech industry standards. - No professional development: This is where innovation goes to die. New ideas are shut down unless they come from the very top. Bench level scientists are...

        Advice to Management

lol. None. Advice to job seekers at BASF Enzymes: Ask to talk to people previously hired at positions similar to yours and see how they have progressed in their careers. Ask how many people have left in the preceding year (or even months). Don't be fooled by the desirable location, and the gleaming glass building. Ask people what new skills they have developed during their time at BASF (hint: very few!). You'll be...

I have been working at BASF full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Lots of resources, the benefits are excellent, and there are locations all over the world.

        Cons

If you are trying to get a promotion in your current position, it is very difficult. The easiest way is to apply internally for similar jobs. Being willing to relocate is another big plus, but that's the biggest downfall.

        Advice to Management

Be more invested in your employees.
