I worked at BC Liquor Stores part-time

    Pros

Pay and eventual benefits in union environment. management recognizes how hard the oncall system is so they really try and accommodate your availability requests.

    Cons

having to by by the phone 8:30-10am and then again 2:30-4pm to find out if you have to work that same day. Really impossible to work around unless you are a single person.

I worked at BC Liquor Stores part-time for less than a year

    Pros

-you get good pay for a job that doesn't require a university degree etc. -you'll have a good experience if you get lucky with management and the customer base (e.g. Dollarton) -you get to learn about different types of alcohol and breweries

    Cons

-some coworkers power trip over their seniority and some coworkers have an "Old Boys' Club" mentality -when you're new, you'll be expected to stay on till for almost all your shifts -your shifts will be inconsistent and lacking until you gain seniority -as will all jobs that deals with customer service, some customers will be rude and troublesome (there's a lot of theft going on too) -if you're a lifer, good luck trying to work your way up to management (I saw plenty of good senior staff overlooked in favor of people from outside the company)

I worked at BC Liquor Stores part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Not sure. Potential career opportunities if you become friends with management.

    Cons

Extreme micro-management. They will not hesitate to give you a verbal warning if you're late 1 (one minute), even the warning part takes longer than one minute. Higher management don't even talk to the employees. Complaints get ignored. Bullying is very common because again Management does not want to deal with it.

    Pros

Nice people, customers are fairly nice.

    Cons

On-call and basically get no work when you start and even when you are fully scheduled you can't know your schedule until the Wednesday of the week before. Oh and you work at multiple locations, never knowing where you're going to be assigned.
