I worked at BDO USA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They cultivate a work hard play hard mentality. Lots of social outings to help you get to know your coworkers. Solid on the job training. Management listens to feedback, but you have to give it.

    Cons

Be ready for long hours typical of a large accounting firm.

    Advice to Management

You've got a great culture. Please continue to hire accordingly.

I worked at BDO USA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There's career advancement from associate to senior level. Good experience if you are a starting professional.

    Cons

BDO doesn't care about its people. They only care about meeting the numbers which means enslaving their employees to keep the bosses happy. The managers and partners rarely show up on client sites and supervise their staff. You will work long hours starting from October - April depending on year-end clients, and bosses still won't be happy about your performance. On top of that, there's ZERO supervision from management...

    Advice to Management

"People first" slogan should be changed to "Money first". There's a high employee turnover and if this is a concern , BDO should start working on management's tone and company's core values.

I worked at BDO USA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Benefits are fantastic, except 401k and they are extremely cheap. Many opportunities to move in the company.

    Cons

Really depends on office, there was a switch in managing partners in my location and that flipped everything upside down. Not to mention my mentor was too busy to help me.

    Advice to Management

Do whatever you want, you will anyway.

I have been working at BDO USA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Quality staff, great middle management, emphasis on training and career growth in general.

    Cons

Poor communication from upper management. Advisory group is underpaid compared to other large accounting firms.

    Advice to Management

When you have good talent, don’t block every chance they have at progressing their career to a better level!

I have been working at BDO USA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pros - good office culture - partner and manager mentors - flexibility - opportunities to work on more complex areas early on in career

    Cons

Cons - compensation - office politics

    Advice to Management

More in office trainings over complex areas to give more support to seniors. Promote more within the office, instead of bringing in new people for the positions.

I have been working at BDO USA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice place to start your career. People are friendly to work with. Upper management in the office is willing to listen to new ideas. Lots of interesting clients, public and private. Exposed to vast array of industries, not pigenholed into one area. Dual monitor screens are nice. Lots of free snacks and drinks. Compensation is decent.

    Cons

Working hours, can be busy a lot. As a result turnover is sort of high (but I guess it's normal for the industry). Training is not the best compared to other firms. IT can be a hassle to deal with, and the computers are not that great. Benefits are sort of ok...I guess.

    Advice to Management

Spared out the work more. Some people are getting overloaded to the point of burnout while others are cruising along working the minimum.

I have been working at BDO USA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Client base and hands-on learning from some of the most knowledgeable people is GREAT. You really will learn some phenomenal public accounting information from great seasoned staff.

    Cons

You are treated like a servant by some staff. Your intelligence will always be questioned because they don't believe you are as talented as you are. They will not communicate with you, and you will not be trained properly. The on-boarding process is a nightmare. When you mention your concerns to your supervisor, the entire staff knows about them. They lack professionalism and act in a retaliatory manner to you if you...
