I have been working at BMW of North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can get away with doing bare minimum in many departments. Managers have absolutely no clue what the employees are doing. When an issue needs escalation, managers are the quietest but when s*** hits the fan, they are the first to question you.

    Cons

Silos. Silos. Silos. Lack of diversity. Diversity is only seen in IT or low level positions. Unless you're white or German, don't expect to get promoted to management level positions. If you're white, then it's a great place to work for. They talk about diversity but there's literally nothing to show for.

I worked at BMW of North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The benefits and location are great. There are some great people that work here, but they often get overshadowed by the not so great. The work-life balance is pretty good as well.

    Cons

The culture is very old-world corporate. Expect to dress-up daily and be quite a shmoozer if you want to get ahead.

  8. "Don't belive all of the negative reviews regarding expats, its a German organization and the language at HQ is German.."

I worked at BMW of North America full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Career growth if you are truly engaged / superstar level of worker. Good work is noticed. No shortage of extra work, and a supportive environment for conservative risk taking. It is a German company, so you will pick up parts of the language. Opportunities for advancement if you are a strong enough employee.

    Cons

Pay is low. German auto employers look like they have all called each other to talk about salaries. A manager at BMW makes the same as at MB/VW/Porsche, all in the mid-low 6 figures. I find it strange that all of the manufacturers came to the same decision on compensation grading (most likely due to German labor laws with unions in Europe... but that practice should not hold true here). They will not consider your prior work experience when evaluating your compensation. Compensation structure is flawed, where high performers can be tempered (no financial reach / motivation), and bare minimum employee s will receive a strong salary for barely working.

Current Employee - BMW Genius in San Juan Capistrano, CA

I have been working at BMW of North America part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Cons

    Long hours, nothing else bad

  10. "Daily microagressions and little vision"

    2.0
Former Employee - Communications in Woodcliff Lake, NJ

I worked at BMW of North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Beautiful cars and high standards of work

    Cons

Company has not evolved - ageist, sexist, and dominated by German expatriates. Tight budgets and micromanagement stifle initiative.
