I worked at Babylon Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There was for a while, a really incredible set of people trying to do the work.

    Cons

Management of every discipline, and particularly the senior management failed at creating any sense of objectives or cohesion or momentum that allow teams to flourish. Instead it was constant change of direction, a constant rebranding of half finished mistake riddled work, that ultimately left everyone I knew who worked there jaded and unsatisfied. Couple that with fairly poor remuneration and a complete black box of HR and career progression it’s not hard to understand why everyone is leaving.

    Pros

they pay salary and provide a laptop

    Cons

    - Management changes directions frequently. - A lot of people are on notice. Software engineers are running away. - No new hires. - Mess in the organisation. - Also there are some concerns about senior management. It is not a western way to run the company. - CEO asks to write some good reviews on glassdoor.

I have been working at Babylon Health full-time

    Pros

    - Great mission: "put an accessible and affordable health service in the hands of every person on earth" - Great engineers. The vast majority of engineers I've worked with are very smart and very good at their jobs - Great product, ux design, etc: there's a lot of beautiful collaboration between all the different parts of engineering - Some interesting technical problems with good space to grow technically - Good salaries on entry compared to average rates for London

    Cons

    - Mixed culture: some teams have a very good culture. Some don't. - Internal career reward and progression: compensation and benefits are good when you first join, but career reward and progression once you're inside are awful. There's no career ladder for engineers. The feedback process changes every 6 months or so. Feedback and pay aren't clearly linked. People go 1+ years without even incremental pay rises. People are often promoted without also being financial rewarded. - Tech-deaf senior management: We market ourselves as a tech start-up/scale-up, but we're not really tech-driven. Tech-enabled: yes. But not tech-driven. We're steadily moving towards a style of top-down, sales-led development that often ignores engineering concerns, including the concerns of product people on the ground. - Unpredictable CEO: other company directors disappear without warning or explanation. He often talks a very good talk, but he also often doesn't walk the walk. Transparency is an example that people often bring up: he talks a lot about it and tries it (we have weekly company stand-ups), but it's often missing when people need it the most.

I have been working at Babylon Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everything without touching the management is good. The collaboration and the atmosphere make the working environment comfortable.

    Cons

Anything promised is a lie. Package review is the most painful experience, it could last more than 8 months and still no result. Anything can be an excuse for their postponing, from unclear budget owners and team restructuring to policy change. I was given false timelines several times which causes false expectations. If you see this, think twice, don't make yourself an idiot like me. The senior management said they're aware of the huge loss of talents this year, but the solution seems to be hiring more mid-high level managers from non-healthcare industry.

I worked at Babylon Health for more than a year

    Pros

    - Had a really good iOS team which has gradually lost a ton of people - All the leads have left and some smart people furloughed - There are some Tribes/Feature teams which are really nice to work in.

    Cons

    - All the bad reviews on here are 100% legit. - The management blames everyone but themselves for the lack of direction of the company. Objectives keep changing, projects keep getting shelved and new ideas pursued with little thought or data to back it. - The way the company reacted to external/internal criticism on unethical practices was borderline illegal. - The CEO has a bit of "Steve Jobs" like reality distortion field with zero ability to clearly put his ideas into an executable plan. He surrounds himself with "Yes" men/women. There is a clear lack of trust between the employees at large and this senior management. - The iOS team specifically was kept in the dark about React Native experiments and obviously the team was not too happy.

"Worst company I have ever worked for, toxic culture, issues swept under the rug"

I worked at Babylon Health full-time

    Pros

There are a number of exceptional people, the majority have left.

    Cons

Management & Hiring - Senior management are rude and aggressive. You will be fired if you disagree or challenge decisions. - Babylon fire people for mistakes, vs using issues as a learning opportunity. - There are 0 career ladders, and no progression. HR have been "working on this" for 2 years now. - Benefits refresh was talked about by HR in early 2019 and never happened. - Senior leaders last about 6-12 months before being fired or leaving. I believe there has been around 4 Head of people/VP People in the past 1-2 years. Culture & work-life - The core values are fake. Transparency is a big problem internally, everything is hushed down. - A number of US employees were let-go during a restructure and this was not talked about internally. - Issues, failures and problems are quickly swept under the rug and never spoken about again. - Employees are told to stop/end conversations about internal issues and issues with large employee support are never addressed. - The culture is toxic, back-stabbing and a blame culture. Teams will not commit to anything because they fear being fired. - Internal morale is very low, I consistently heard employees openly discussing how much they disliked working at Babylon. - Work-life is the worst I have ever seen/experienced, anywhere in my career. - Management laden you with too much and set you up for failure. - I've seen countless people go off sick for extended periods of time due to stress and burnout and never return. - The office is paraded as 'one of the best in London'. It's very poor, cramped and has had a mouse problem for over a year now. There is little to no breakout spaces and the kitchens are too small for the quantity of employees. Product: - Fake 'demos' are presented to the public and media, which don't actually exist. It's all about hype hype hype. - Very broken internally, we consistently release buggy/broken features/updates to the public and partners. - The product org is very fragmented and the vision is non-existent.

    Babylon Health Response

May 2, 2020People and Performance Team

Thank you for your review and positive feedback for our Babylonians. Over the past two months, Babylon has carried out the vital process of reviewing our engineering platform, technology tribe structure and general capabilities to ensure the product is more scalable and to support long-term global delivery. The COVID-19 crisis has obviously also had a huge impact on both our clients’ needs and delivery requirements, and we have had to review our structures to reflect our short-term delivery needs. This work resulted in around 5% of our workforce being furloughed in the UK as they were not critical to current delivery while others have left the business as they fell outside of the scope of our renewed longer-term focus. During those same two months, we have seen a resultant upturn in the number of negative reviews, with March and April now representing nearly 50% of the total reviews Babylon has received in its six years history on Glassdoor. At Babylon, we really value our open and collaborative culture and carry out a survey among our two thousand employees every two weeks anonymously using an independent platform, collecting thousands of data points to assess the true feelings of Babylonian across many different subjects. Our survey shows that when asked, ‘Either my manager or a mentor encourages and supports my development’, 75% scored 7 or more out of 10, while 40% scored 9 or 10 out of 10 and when asked ‘My job enables me to learn and develop new skills’, 73% scored 7 or more out of 10.

I worked at Babylon Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Some nice colleagues - It's difficult to find pros for working at this company

    Cons

    - No job satisfaction - Flexi hours and working from home is very frowned upon even though it's sold as part of the job perks - Sucking up to senior management will get you much further than actually being good at your job - Management are not tech savvy, considering that this is a digital health company. - The culture is toxic with people backstabbing you to get ahead

I worked at Babylon Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The mission sounds great. Talented and friendly people who care about what the company is doing .

    Cons

Highly political management who only care about there own personal advancement. They care nothing for the companies mission or the people they manage. Pay reviews and promotions only go to the manager's favourites. Senior management have no interest in real feedback only being told how great they are.

    Pros

Used to be purpose drive but now it's just a sad place with fake people.

    Cons

Very unhealthy level of office politics. Horrible middle/senior management that would not hesitate to throw you/your team mates under the bus.
