Flexible job in good and bad ways

Jul 19, 2022 - Engineer in Oakland, CA

      Pros

If you want to work in a certain technical area you can ask management to work where you want within reason. Work is kept interesting with multiple different projects to work on.

      Cons

Poor management can cause engineers to work aimlessly which leads to frustrating situations. Classic government laze causes timing delays.

The Best Job I Ever Had

Jun 27, 2022 - Electronics Technician in Oakland, CA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The AFC Electronics position is a 4/10 schedule, with the most relaxing work environment ever. Plenty of overtime available, so you can push your salary up to around 150K - 180K. The work is clean and easy, all of your co-workers are helpful, and take the time to teach you if you come across a problem you don't understand. This job has absolutely no stress at all, people take forever to retire lol.

      Cons

As with all union jobs, the protect those lazy slackers, so sometimes you're pulling someone else's dead weight. But even that isn't so bad because the work is so non stressful; it's just the principle of it. I was terminated due to the vaccine mandate. So if you're not into that, you must be vaccinated to get hired now.

      Cons

Firmer attendance policy, and real consequences when severe underperforming for a long period of time.

      Cons

Lots of mean people. They talk down to you. dirty job. They can move you to different shifts. Poor management . Look how DMV or EDD runs. This is a Gov run job. $$ wasted everywhere. No QA checks on PM. So we can easily skip procedures to complete tasks.
