I worked at Big Spaceship full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Company transparency, clear defined roles, great process + workflow, good work/life balance (in comparison to similar agencies in NYC), great people, no egos, fun culture, CEO really cares about the people.

    Cons

The only cons you'll ever run into (as with any agency) is clients change and if the clients aren't for you, you'll want to go elsewhere. However if agency-life is what you like, BSS is an agency you'll want to stay at for years.

  4. "Talented folks struggling with growing agency"

    3.0
    Former Employee - Account Manager

I worked at Big Spaceship full-time

    Pros

Real opportunity to shine with decent client roster, and even if you are in a junior position you will be expected to contribute. Very fun, nice, talented group of folks across all disciplines.

    Cons

The agency is top-heavy with a non-diverse c-suite. These folks are smart and talented but routinely go home ahead of staff and avoid layoff rounds while the rest of the staff takes the brunt of the work.

I worked at Big Spaceship full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Big Spaceship has the best office culture. No one is too competitive, your weirdness is respected and you really feel like a family. It's extremely collaborative and you can always count on your team and peers.

    Cons

    Unpredicted layoffs within the agency

I have been working at Big Spaceship full-time

    Pros

    - Small enough to have an impact, but large enough to be secure - Good boss and leadership who identify strengths and try their best to maximize those strengths in the employees - Concern for employee growth and always looking to expand opportunities for personal career growth - Good parties and egg sandwiches on Friday - Compensation is industry standard

    Cons

    - Size requires that we pitch constantly and that can get tiring - Size also might count against us when going for larger clients - Compensation could be better (see pro)

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Big Spaceship full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Fun culture. People are young, and they're trying to grow up by hiring grown ups.

    Cons

It didn't feel like they were staffed up right to do the work they wanted, which was advertising, and not product.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Big Spaceship full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Excluding management, most of the people who work here are great - smart, interesting, creative, nice. Not a lot of egos. - Some of the projects/campaigns can be creatively challenging and interesting.

    Cons

    - The distribution of work isn't great. Half the office plays ping pong and watches YouTube videos all day, while the other half works nights and weekends. - Management is totally unorganized. There is no alignment and often major operational decisions are made by one C-suite member while another C-suite member remains completely unaware. - There are a few bad apples in more senior roles that are incredibly political and regularly throw others under the bus. - The CEO only cares about image. For example: after moving into the new office, the CEO repeatedly reprimanded us for not storing our belongings in lockers (I didn't realize this was 2nd grade??) as he wanted the office to appear clean and sleek. Meanwhile, all of the conference rooms had major acoustics issues that were so problematic, our clients couldn't hear us during conference calls. We often had to resort to using a cell phone on speaker and passing it around while presenting work. This went on for months and made us look like total amateurs.
