I have been working at Blue Sky Studios full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Really great focus on family culture. Stable 9 to 6 job. Lots of holiday events that welcome employee's kids coming to work. Overall, people take care of each other. Balanced work-life culture and environment.

    Cons

Technology is outdated. Hardware is outdated. Techniques are outdated. Entrenched leadership strongly resists change and innovation. Lots of office politics will prevent many from fairly advancing. Salary not as competitive.

    Advice to Management

Empower upstarts to make meaningful change and impacts. Beware of old entrenched leadership that is resistant to change and progress.

I have been working at Blue Sky Studios full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Obviously it’s one of the top feature animation studios out there, but when you compare the movies it’s putting out to other top studios, blue sky’s are not my favorite. In the past they have tended to be more childish and attempt to follow trends in pop culture rather than create and inspire with original content. However recent changes in leadership and the next few years movies should be the best blue sky has ever...

      Cons

Right now, uncertainty about the future with the Disney merger happening. People seem optimistic though.

I have been working at Blue Sky Studios full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

Great talent, great people, great work environment.

      Cons

Not necessarily competitive pay, disconnect between LA Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios where all the work is actually done- but improving. Need continued commitment to story and talent to truly rise to the next level.

      Advice to Management

Sharing more information and a more inclusive collaborative spirit between management and crew and talent will connect creative people to their work more and will allow for better work all around.

      Pros

Awesome people. Very talented and friendly

      Cons

Not enough opportunities to grow and learn new skills.

      Advice to Management

Really need to invest more in doing cutting edge work and need better projects to push the technology forward.

I worked at Blue Sky Studios full-time

      Pros

      - Friendly company - Very talented staff - Stable work environment - Take good care of employees

      Cons

      - Too many layers of management, takes a great effort to make change - Feels like there is a disconnect between Fox Animation in LA and the people doing most of the work - A little too frugal at times, especially as complexity demands increase - Need to get better at telling stories

      Advice to Management

      - reduce middle management, too inefficient - invest more in story - invest more in technology
