Great company in general, but not good to work at the store..

      Pros

      great benefits, Holidays, Sample Sale

      Cons

The biggest store. It used to be a great place to work. I used to have good managers who care about team members and feel be treated fairly. Team members were happy at work before. However, many caring managers are left the company. Hard working employee hasn't be treated fairly if they don't have "connection" with senior management. Promotion opportunities are more likely for manager's friends. ( work performance doesn't matter much to promotion ) Hard-working employee are focus on their target during the day, no time to flatter floor managers. As a result, some colleagues become focus on building relationship with managers instead focusing on their main role. That means, If you are good at talking, flattering, doing some manager's duties that you might have opportunity to be promoted although KPI is not good. Great work performance is not rewarding much that makes people feel frustrated. Some line managers acted differently in front of senior management. Many of them only care what is beneficial to their career. They actually don't care about your issues but they have to pretend they care about it.

      Pros

      - Great culture & friendly atmosphere - Great people to work and chat within the office / remotely - Work-life balance - Good place to develop new skills - Autonomy with managing workload & trying new things - Good benefits: staff discounts, sample sales, fresh fruit, free lunches, summer fridays (1pm finish), buy/sell holiday - Management has a good philosophy in the IT tower. - Big drive towards ESG.

      Cons

      - Annual pay rises/pay reviews and bonuses should be much better. - London office is more cramped, less friendly and less well-coordinated than Leeds. - Significant amount of holiday calendar blocked out through the year

Dying cooperation with bad management strategy

      Pros

1, constant sample sale, you can find something really really good with like 95% off its original price 2, you get 500 pound share each year, although you can only sell it after two years in the company. 3, there is this amazing share buying scheme where you can buy certain amount of shares. If the shares price go down, you can get your money back at the price you bought it in. if it goes up you can sell your shares at the increased price. and after certain years you will be able to sell your shares tax free. 4, Fruit basket in store and in the office. 5, Generous holiday package, 25days +5 days extra seasonal holidays. if you are in store, you get all bank holiday in liu and you get double pay if you work a bank holiday.

      Cons

Burberry is slowing falling out of the customer's favour in recent years. The sales was stagnant before the new designer and it is a struggle to gain new clientele with the new design direction. result of this is they made the retail staff's life really hard. 1, you get all these new expectations and new duties while your pay stay the same. 2, retail staff get all the blame if the sales is not good. 3, You are constantly policed by managers, visiting head office people on whether you followed every steps they wrote in the customer journey handbook even it is sometimes not very natural. 4, Aggressive sales style expectation. They want you to jump on the customer as soon as they walk in and they want you to ask them to buy everything available in store regardless what they are looking for. 5, They want you to capture all customer's contact details even they are just browsing. 6, No progression in this company, you need to wait 4-5 years to just progress the the next level which only pays for 5k more. They always bring in outsource talent. 7, The HR encourage retail management to be mean and harsh to staff so if the long serving staff don't like the changes they can leave the company themselves. Absolutly toxic work environment. 8, Last but not the least. Burberry as a big FTSZ 100 cooperation machine. Its lack of agility in reaction to changes are slow and conservative and not suitable for a ever so changing world.

Nice company at times but rife with issues

13 Jan 2021 - Systems Analyst in Leeds, England, England

      Pros

      - Decent benefits such as staff discounts, sample sales, fresh fruit, free lunches (London office only) and summer Fridays. (Can leave at 1pm)- Good place to develop new skills - Good place to develop new skills if you can keep up with the workload, quite often involved in projects that expose you to new processes and practices outside of your normal area of work, you gain a good understanding of how the whole business works and the impact your area has. - Great finance team with strong leadership and clearly defined policies and practices. - Great people to work with overall. - Flexible working and have been quite solid when it comes to home working. - City centre based offices (Both Leeds and London), easily accessible and nice environment, open offices, no real fighting over meeting rooms, new equipment (connecting TV to laptop can be a tad finicky)/

      Cons

      - Terrible habit of senior leadership dictating how something should be built, despite never using/never will use a system, and not involving the people who use this system on a daily basis. In some areas of the business there is a huge gap between the technical and functional (business) team, leading to a lot of wasted time in project meetings. It is extremely difficult to call something out (even when you and several other experts of the system are screaming that X wont work)as it will get brushed aside by more senior staff, they claim challenging something is seen as a positive, but it really does cause issues. - Remedyforce (shudders is disgust) is used as our primary ticketing system, and is run with an iron-fisted call centre style of management which has led to several issues throughout the systems and processes that are used in Burberry. Employees are judged and rated based on how many calls they miss, the number of cases resolved or re-opened etc, and senior leadership doesnt seem to care about the why, and will just pressure managers and team leaders to simply increase the percentages, quite often this has led to team leads being micromanagers. This has led to little incentive amongst several teams for them to implement permanent fixes, these take a long time and coordination from multiple teams which will not be rewarded because the ticket about it will be out of SLA, whereas you get a solid pat on the back for putting in a quick cheap bandaid fix because the ticket will be in SLA. - Low salaries that do not meet the industry average couples with the expectation that you should work beyond your remit where there is little reward or recognition for doing so has led to a high turn over for talented staff. - Employee engagement surveys are the same every year, there is a disconnect between staff and SLT, many feel under appreciated and overworked.

      Pros

Sample sales & staff discounts Various opportunities to take part in project Great teams and line manager Good location Summer Fridays when team can leave at 12:30

      Cons

The BBS hierarchy is very flat - staff is employed as admins so that the company can save more money, but this leads to lack of progression opportunities Clear division between Leeds and London ( London teams have free lunches on daily basis yet Leeds once a month following clear dissatisfaction after employee survey results) SLTs are savings driven and do not care about high rate of staff turnover. They are happy to let good staff members to leave rather than increase their salary Company prefers to hire contractors and pay them more for few months contracts rather than utilise knowledgable people within the teams
