I have been working at Cancer Research UK full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Funded studies and great opportunities to interact with other cancer researchers from around the world.

    Cons

Cancer is an intense and fast moving field. Long working hours, lots of commitments and stipend should be adjusted with the current cost of living.

I have been working at Cancer Research UK full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

People are here to ask big scientific questions and therefore take really challenging projects. Plenty of opportunities to present your work and get feedback from colleagues and PI from different backgrounds. Really enjoy working here.

    Cons

Better to be self-motivated person. Sometime the PI are just too busy to take care of each students.

    Pros

Clever, passionate and witty people. Good cause. Challenging and interesting work.

    Cons

It's hard to find a better research PhD position anywhere in the world than this funded by CRUK. Having said that the expectations are really high and you do have to work hard and often long hours. Also, CRUK offers additional training in communication which is very useful and the PhD programme is more structured than elsewhere.
