I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than a year

      Pros

People are generally well paid, happy, and motivated to come to work. You’ll work with lots of smart people who genuinely believe in the company’s mission, but you won’t have to work ridiculous hours.

      Cons

Some politics from leaders at times. The company likes to think all its decisions are data driven, but power battles can be frequent.

      No opinion of CEO

I worked at Capital One full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

      - Decent pay, until you realize people in other banks do the same work get the same pay but have higher title - Benefits are okay

      Cons

      - Rampant office politics, need to be in the inner circle to get things done - No real innovation at the company. Talking is more valued over doing - Senior management in a cloud and oblivious to painful and inefficient processes - A lot of cocky, know-it-all coworkers - Extremely high attrition - Bonus is a joke

      Advice to Management

Less talking, more doing. Reward those who are actually delivering instead of talking.

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Good benefits which they are slowly stripping away or now at the expense of laying off other folks

      Cons

Hire best and brightest but have them do crappy job, don’t really care for associates but show off with surveys. Don’t go to Plano campus

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Work life balance is amazing. You get to work with smart people on the cutting edge when you're a performer, but management is behind the cutting edge and teaching them is painstaking. Benefits, pay, and even coaching and development are the best available.

      Cons

Innovation is being crushed by the increasing layers of the organization, increasing number of stakeholders, and a "consensus decision making" culture. Appetite for risks is low to nonexistent. They talk about innovating a lot, but the auto finance business is so big there's just no real stomach to take risks. Leadership can be outwardly defensive and aggressive in killing new ideas. I think the main symptom of this is...

      Advice to Management

Thin out the organization - people can see and know that the Director+ level has no room. Probably about 1/2 of leadership has been there their whole career and is sheltered. They need to be aggressively rotated. Encourage risks, even though it might rock the consensus culture.
