I have been working at Capital One full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Fantastic work-life balance, at least in the Chicago office. Being a bank you get off extra holidays than many places, so it's like having a little extra PTO around.

    Cons

Lots of bureaucracy since it's such a large corporation. You're also working for a credit card company that makes money off of people who are in debt to them, so whatever your feelings are towards that it should play a role in your decision.

I have been working at Capital One full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. A very lax culture with a startup feel for being such a large company. Hours vary per team/manager, but it's usually around 9:30-4:30-- you never get the stink eye for coming late/leaving early. 2. Working remotely is heavily encouraged in situations that warrant it, such as being sick/house work/doctor's appointment/etc. 3. (Sort of a pro, sort of a con) Some managers are amazing-- and some are very lack luster. Thankfully, Capital One encourages movement around the company, so you don't have to be stuck in a position that you hate.

    Cons

    1. Capital One is growing far too fast for comfort. The parking situation is absolutely horrendous. If you're not in the office by 9:15, you're kind of screwed. It's sort of like a college campus-- lots of growth and 0 parking. The thing is, colleges have subsidies for/free public transit; Capital One has no such thing. The employees have been making a buzz about this issue for years with no response from the company. 2. Employees (specifically those brought in through the college grad program) are hired in flocks. This is okay on the surface, but the overcrowding situation is at a tipping point (some people don't even have desks!!) and it's looking more and more like Capital One hires these college grads as cheap labor. In general, the vetting process isn't the best-- it does a pretty good job most of the time, but every now and then you meet a person and think, "who in the world interviewed you?" 3. As you've probably guessed, politics are major here. Playing the right cards, not necessarily doing great work, gets you promoted. Your manager alone is the one who pitches your competencies during review season. You can have 10 great things on your brag sheet, but if your manager has a vendetta against you/a favoritism for another employee, you're going to be torn down.

    Pros

Great Place To Work, freindly and good perks

Sometimes too Agile and driven by Product instead of allowing Tech to drive what nees to be done so lots of tech debt

I worked at Capital One full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people and technologies are cutting edge.

    Cons

Capital One likes to force people out to keep up attrition and for completion among people at same job titles. i.e. for 10 people rated together, bottom 2 performer, rated by manager, are put on probation coaching plans and if the manager does not like you, you will most likely be forced out.
