I have been working at Carbonite full-time

    Pros

Carbonite is a great place to work and build a career. The company has been in acquisition mode which keeps things exciting. The CEO is an outstanding leader, but an even BETTER person. As an employee you have the opportunity to make an impact in decisions being made as the company grows. The people make the company and we have awesome people!

    Cons

Communication could be better, but with all the growth I can see why this has been challenging.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing!

Thanks so much for your feedback! As with any rapidly growing organization, communication can lag but improving it is a goal.

I worked at Carbonite full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, free food, "unlimited" PTO, some really awesome coworkers.

    Cons

Lack of communication across departments. Most departments are working for themselves instead of the company. There's a lot of finger-pointing when something goes wrong but no meaningful, long-term changes ever come as a result. Most ICs are not valued as employees and are seen as replaceable. When a management position is open, the most senior IC tends to get promoted to fill it without consideration for whether it's...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees instead of proudly saying that you do an employee engagement survey every year. I took that thing four times and saw results exactly once. Execs should be regularly meeting with ICs instead of taking managers' updates at face value. Take a long, hard look at HR policies & practices and investigate whether concerns are actually being resolved. Institute a minimum PTO requirement so that members...

I worked at Carbonite full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The techs you work with are amazing, as are employees from other departments. Free food on Monday and Friday.

    Cons

Our poor Managers are powerless and have contradicting directives handed down to them almost daily. You can't believe a single word that comes out of our Project Manager turned Senior Manager's mouth. She is on a short leash by our Director and will lie straight to your face if it serves her purpose, which it usually does. Our Director is a joke. He needs to spend less time being "Really excited" about "peeling an onion"...

    Pros

You will get to know your co-workers and they are some of the best people you will know. Other than that, there isn't much.

    Cons

Boy, where do we start. First of all, let me start by saying that anyone reading this review, to not submit yourself to the amount of stress that goes around this place. Systems are constantly going down, whether it is the phone quality to where you can barley even hear your customer to your VM not being able to register you clicking on something for several seconds all while the customer is getting frustrated at you...

    Pros

nice to have free snacks and drinks and great technology in the office

    Cons

Companies have been acquired and the marriage seemed great. Once the honeymoon was done, your opinion rarely made a difference. If you aren’t in the hq, be prepared to be forgotten and not included. The technology has gone stale and what we needed to be competitive didn’t seem to be a priority.

    Advice to Management

Value those who aren’t in Boston as valued members of teams. I had learned more from those in the field who were actively working with partners, customers and prospects. Value those who are in the trenches and make them feel like they succeed.

    Pros

Company is constantly diversifying the portfolio of offerings through acquisitions CEO seems to have a solid vision of where the company is going Snacks? but that is pretty minor Good work life balance.

    Cons

At times it seems that ideas are thrown against a wall and if some don't stick, upper management picks them off the floor, beats them to a pulp, then nails them to the wall. This results in a hastily put together projects that have numerous holes. There doesn't seem to be much room to grow.

    Advice to Management

The constant changes to how teams are made up adds unnecessary confusion. No one knows what they should be handling, or what projects they should be focused on.

Thank you for your feedback. Every employee either sets semi-annual goals with their manager or has a sales plan so there is clarity about key priorities. We encourage you to speak with your manager if there is confusion about the projects you should be focused on.
