      Pros

Decent Pay/benefits Good opportunities if you are on the right team

      Cons

If you are a racial minority prepare to be passed up for promotion Poor work life balance Constant turnover due to poor management They don't let go of toxic employees that have been poisoning the company for years They were supposed to provide a roadmap to allow folks to have career opportunities and failed to provide it let alone stick to it. They will continue to lose all of their good employees and don't appear to care as to why it keeps happening. They like to claim that they are all about diversity and inclusion but there is clearly a ceiling as to how far you can go. There is a reason that you will see not a see an African American in any high position at Centene's Information Technology department let alone in Cyber Security.

      Top talent and great leadership

29 May 2021 - Senior Director in Clayton, MO

      Business Outlook

      Pros

I work with some of the most well educated, talented, hard working employees and peers. My department puts mission/culture first in alignment with our 3 key pillars. I believe Sr. Leadership stays true to our companies roots. I appreciate MFN’s strong stance against racism and discrimination. The time and resource he has put into Ferguson, St. Louis, Charlotte and other charitable causes is admired. The Clayton campus is state of the art and impressive. It is encouraged to spend time investing in professional development. I feel like it is easy to retain top talent. Work/life balance is easy to achieve and very busy times are cyclical. Pay and benefits are above average.

      Cons

Culture over bottom line success is refreshing but I worry it is not sustainable in the long run. Technology, platforms, dashboards are outdated and made WAH harder. I don’t fully believe bonuses are paid out due to contributions. MFN is a brilliant leader and made Centene the success it is today, but realistically he is in his late 70’s and there is no clear succession plan. I worry what kind of chaos or disruption will ensue if this is not socialized or has to be implemented quickly.

      WORST PLACE EVER!!!

13 Nov 2021 - Appeals and Grievance Coordinator in Woodland, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good pay, benefits are okay, a lot of overtime.

      Cons

Because it's a constant revolving door, this department overtime is unreal. You get burned out by the amount of work and there expectations. Management does not care about the oversized work load people have. People are constantly filing for FMLA because of how stressful this job is. And on holidays it's a given you will come in and work part or a full shift. People can be nice but since they get burned out as well, things change really quickly.

      Pros

      Cons

Must be able to quickly adapt to changes in the work process. Heavy on compliance, lacking professional development/advancement

      Pros

There are genuinely great people working there who believe in the mission. Pay and benefits are competitive.

      Cons

The Company is so large there are times when it can be difficult to feel like its all connected. Policy makers may not be fully aware of what a front line employee does.

A flawed but high paying company

      24 May 2021 - Supervisor of Training
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Pay and benefits are adequate. Work/life balance for salaried is also fine.

      Cons

The training is farily straightforward but expect many of the trainees to struggle witht the academics as their recruiting in that area is not strong. Rank and file analysts suffer with no feedback to let them know when they have done the job correctly. Their management puts focus almost entirely on production with very little thought put into the quality of their work, probably becasue they simply cannot know, until weeks later, if they've done the job correctly. It's a flawed system that is always promising a fix is justaround the corner.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

This is a large national company that is growing. There are many opportunities for career growth. This company encourages continued learning and growth and offers Centene University which includes free access to LinkedIn Learning. Pay and benefits are good. The pay and benefits are good.

      Cons

While employees nationwide have been working from home during the pandemic, it is not the typical policy of this company to allow employees to work remote. The dress code is business casual to formal. Jeans and sneakers may be worn as a reward. If your spouse has health benefits through their own employer, they will not be covered as a spouse under your policy. You will have to provide proof that they do not have other coverage.

      Unrealistic expectations

      24 Sep 2021 - Anonymous Employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Flex scheduling.

      Cons

Toxic work environment. Very metric driven and only care about the numbers you’re producing, not that you’re taking care of the membership. Unrealistic expectations.
