I have been working at Charles River Associates full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Intellectual atmosphere, collegial rapport, competitive pay, reasonable hours (for consulting), substantial communications from corporate, excellent professional development opportunities, extensive training resources, appreciative managers.

    Cons

Inconsistent week-to-week workflow, hours are still sufficiently long (but reasonable for the industry, and you get to choose your workload to some degree), self-directed project assignment.

I worked at Charles River Associates full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Wide variety of projects and cases; ability to work on multiple cases at a time to expand learning opportunities over a short period of time; really smart managers and colleagues; modern office space; great benefits

    Cons

Managers come from mostly academic background (PhDs), so some may need more training on how to effectively manage teams and deadlines; pay differs a lot depending on the practice area even if you have the same title and workload; promotions are mostly based on how many years you have been with the firm so there is no incentive to work harder for them

I have been working at Charles River Associates full-time for more than a year

    Pros

CRA is a great place to work. As an entry level employee you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects with different senior staff.

    Cons

Your experience will be very practice specific. Sometimes the workflow can be inconsistent depending on project staffing.

I have been working at Charles River Associates full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Excellent colleagues, good culture - Challenging projects with exciting learning opportunities - Decent compensation package on par with industry average - Ample training resources and significant investment in junior employees' career development

    Cons

    - Relatively low recognition outside practice areas - Large corporate-like career ladder - Unpredictable hours (probably not surprising for any consulting firm)

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Charles River Associates full-time

    Pros

Wonderful colleagues at the junior level; a handful of lovely principals and VPs, but you have to sift through quite a few aggressive seniors to find them

    Cons

Upper management does not keep up with the times nor do they particularly make an effort to support positive growth and development; responses to core political events are harmful to many (e.g., pandemic and George Floyd protests) Diversity and inclusion is simply a check box to most; elitist approach leads to problematic hiring practices, particularly at the top Compensation is poor relative to the industry and bonuses are laughable for junior staff

I appreciate your feedback. CRA strives to provide every employee with a positive experience, and I am sorry we fell short of your expectations. We are committed to our diversity and inclusion initiatives, our robust training processes, and allowing our colleagues access to the professional development tools they need, and are always striving to get better in those areas. Although you note that you are no longer with CRA, I would be happy to speak with you further if you’d like to contact me directly. -- Jen Kordell, CHRO
