Company does not practice what it preaches
18 Jan 2023 - Manager in The Woodlands, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Chevron Phillips offers a good work-life balance.
Cons
For all of the diversity initiatives that the company claims to have, the upper-management at Chevron-Phillips does not value diversity of THOUGHT whatsoever. Value is placed on “visible diversity” only. Upper-management bullies mid-level management and below on a routine basis—overtly and covertly. If you push back on anything, you will be placed in time-out and will most definitely experience a career stall. Employees are often left wondering what they did wrong in pushing back/speaking up, because the company spews “trust” initiatives. I believe that employees start to feel safe in speaking up, only to then realize it’s all lip-service. I have seen it happen so many times and it has created a completely toxic culture . Upper-management all believe that they are the smartest people in the room and, therefore, you better go-with-the-flow or face consequences. Promotions are based on politics, not on competency nor results. Furthermore, in most areas, there is no value placed on anyone who does not hold a chemical engineering degree, which creates a culture of absolutes and unilateral thinking. It’s not a good long-term strategy for a business.

Good Choice
25 Apr 2023 - Anonymous Employee in The Woodlands, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Best company I've worked for. Ran efficiently, expectations are clear, likes to reward employees well. I see a ton of movement in the company, promotions in each department. They like to promote within.
Cons
I wish they would allow us to work remotely a little more flexibly. We have set days. The is a hint of micromanagement, but its not overwhelming. I don't like the new performance requirements I think they're too stringent and unrealistic. ICARE can also be a bit redundant.

Pros
The people are the most loyal and hard working I have met. Also, the internal capabilities are impressive. I learned a lot from colleagues.
Cons
60 hour weeks is considered base effort. If you do more than that, you may be considered strong. If you backstab your peers, it is a leadership trait. There is no trust in employees and is toxic in some departments.

Cons
Wear many hats at times

Pros
The people with whom I work are supportive and genuinely want me to succeed. I have ample opportunities to grow my career and learn. Recession proof, great benefits, and good people.
Cons
We run SUPER lean. Which means many of us often feel over worked. Management is metrics oriented to a point that they can loose sight of the big picture which feels frustrating.
