I have been working at Citadel Securities full-time for less than a year

    Pros

This is the 4th trading firm I have worked at so I know the pros and cons, as well as the strengths and weakness of a good chunk of the industry. It feels like I finally found a home where managers and peers truly care about you and recognize you for your talent/work. The environment isn't toxic or nepotic like some of the other companies. It is a huge company so there are lots of resources should you need help (especially during Covid).

    Cons

I think the teams could be a tad less silo'ed. It is hard to collaborate with other teams on what seems like duplicate work. Nevertheless, you are recognized for your contributions.

I have been working at Citadel Securities full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Welcoming and encouraging environment. Smart collaborative colleagues with an inquisitive/academic mindset. Challenging problems with a lot of freedom both in your choice and in your approach to them, with enough intermediate goalposts to maintain your motivation. While some mentioned work/life balance as a con, the firm places an emphasis on work/life balance and does a lot to help employees achieve it.

    Cons

Being surrounded by very smart overachievers is stressful (but this is also what attracts said smart overachievers). While the company has a very inclusive culture, that does not translate into diversity in practice, at least among QRs.

Came here straight out of college and been at Citadel for 2.5 years 1. Really intelligent employees that are very willing to help

Solid engineering team, that can run with the "big tech" companies. Pays quite well.

    Cons

Very heads down atmosphere - not everyone's 'cup of tea'

I have been working at Citadel Securities full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Compensation is very high. New hires out of college get paid more than almost anywhere else. Workweeks tend to only be 40-50 hours long Colleagues on my team are incredibly sharp, friendly and willing to work together

    Cons

As part of a new team there are some growing pains as we scale up the operation. Notably, any technology changes takes longer than it should.
