I have been working at City of East Point, GA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pro and con....The city presents a small family feel..

    Cons

Pay is not consistent within the city and comparable amongst titles. Council meddles in the day to day operations and some employees (department heads) are afraid to do right by employees because they are afraid of council members who have aligned with reality t.v. stars to move their agenda.. this place is a MESS.. RUN NOW...

I have been working at City of East Point, GA full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A lot of extra-duty jobs available; which you will need to make it to the end of month. You can also take vacation pretty much any time. Pay-rate is ok.

    Cons

Nepotism Management is a joke. People are put into managing roles because of whom they know, not their work ethics, performance or training. First line supervisors act as if they were never officers and will not pick up a call for officers even when there is a short in staff and there are calls holding. Beware, most supervisors want to write people up for bs stuff. Negativism reigns. People here thrive on drama (it’s like your back in H.S) No career advancement. No take home car program. Bad equipment. (You have to buy your own back-up weapon and rifle)

I have been working at City of East Point, GA full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Less structure. More extra jobs to work. Your going to need it to survive.

    Cons

Administration is a joke. They don't care about the line staff at all. They don't care about morale in uniform division. Don't ever come here. They will promise you a dream I tell you.

"Pay is low and the incompetence of the city government leaves employees in a near constant state of crisis."

I have been working at City of East Point, GA

    Pros

The immediate department is pretty good, and the work is interesting. The citizens are appreciative and supportive.

    Cons

The city government is literally insane. The elected officials, particularly the mayor, constantly interfere in and meddle with operations, and the city's history of poor financial management means a near permanent state of crisis, which the employees bear much of the brunt of. Salaries are low and benefits are costly compared to surrounding areas, overtime is payable only as comp time, and every year at budget time there is talk of layoffs and/or furlough days, which actually happen about 1/3 of the time. In 11 years there have been one round of massive layoffs, and three fiscal years with unpaid furlough days, and one or the other appears to be in the works for FY 2013.
