      I have been working at Cloudera full-time (Less than a year)

      Pros

      It is a company where lot of innovation happens
      It is a company with full of great people like Doug Cutting, Yonik, Tom White etc...
      It offers career growth for every individual.
      It is a pioneer in the Hadoop Distribution (CDH)
      It contributes lot of projects to the open source world.
      It is best company for every engineer.

      Cons

      Interview process is a bit slow.
      A few facilities for India employees.

      Advice to Management

      For India employees, provide the accommodation at the time of joining. Start office in a few more locations in India like Bangalore.

      Pros

      The market opportunity is massive, and the merger with Hortonworks makes a lot of sense. We also have an executive staff that believes strongly in fostering an environment of openness.

      Cons

      The technology we provide has almost limitless applications; but its a difficult sale, and still complex to use.

      Advice to Management

      Continue to communicate openly with the staff, and focus resources on making Cloudera Enterprise easier to use.

      Good offices
      Free lunches
      Flexible environment
      A few really talented people left, but bleeding hard
      Exciting technology in an exciting domain & era
      Big customer base

      Cons

      Inversed meritocracy: work well, do grunt work, execute & please customers, you will get nothing (and someone else will get the credit). Screw-up, befriend management or old timers and you will get an all-hands shootouts and promo
      Too many unnecessary layers or middle layer/PM obfuscating reality and who have zero clue. Any creativity is getting killed by those.

      Advice to Management

      Share you real worries to everybody, fire the failures right away, more empathy and level-up the employees. Be bold for real and get visibility to the real doers. People can't be bluffed anymore after 2 years of inaction..

      Cons

      “Grow with Cloudera” is not a reality. Promotions are 100% political. Backstabbing middle management has corrupted the culture. Unhealthy environment to work. Major lack of organization and structure.

      Advice to Management

      Fire the poor managers.
      Don’t allow harassers and liars to make decisions for the company.

      Pros

      - Fantastic benefits and competitive pay
      - Has a GREAT reputation in the Big Data world. Spending four (4) years there has provided a great springboard to other positions at some of the valley's best companies

      Cons

      - Grew VERY fast and got lost in the growth.
      - Upward movement isn't always available. Lots of veteran Clouderans ended up moving to lower positions from managerial positions to find different roles as there wasn't much available on their current track.
