I worked at Cox Purtell full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great technology stack, marketing support, good brand and good reputation for quality service and the MD is a genuine and decent person. They always had a balanced approach to expectations and patience with people while they set themselves up for success. Comms were always pretty standard and consultants were always well informed of the T&C around comms.

    Cons

CP is not the place for you if you can't drive your own success. You are given all the tools, support and training to succeed but you have to have to do the work and make it happen, if you want to have work constantly fed to you then go to a big agency.

I worked at Cox Purtell full-time

    Pros

Massages, cheeseboards, social activities, Friday drinks, friendly CEO.

    Cons

KPI intensive. They use Cube 19 to track all your calls, clients visits, leads...etc. There's even a scoreboard that keeps track of your starts and ends - nothing better than letting everyone know you're under performing. Very stressful position. Lots of my colleagues and myself were dealing with anxiety; it's no secret why there's so much drinking going on. Salary is lower than other recruitment companies and bad commission structure. Make sure to ask them for the details on their comm structure and compare it to other companies. High turnover. Do yourself a favour and do a quick search on LinkedIn and you'll see what I'm talking about.

    Cox Purtell Response

    August 10, 2020MD-CEO

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for the feedback. Of course, it’s disappointing to receive a 1 star review – even “friendly CEO’s” have feelings! Specifically addressing your comments: 1. KPI Intensive Yes, it’s true, we use technology - lots of it - and Cube19 is one of the best tools in the recruitment marketplace for data and analytics. I think it goes without question these days that data and analytics is essential to be successful in any position and any company. At CP, we don’t actively manage to KPI’s but use our metrics primarily for each Consultant to manage themselves (as you will also know we are big believers in independent thinking and self-managing where possible – who wants to micromanage!?!?). So, we have these tools so you know where you can improve yourself, your team and so that management knows where training spend might best be deployed for maximum benefit. 2. Scoreboard Yes, we are an extremely open and transparent business and we won't change that. In addition, Recruitment has an element of friendly competitiveness to it. The main driver of transparency is to drive high performance and celebrate success however a consequence of that transparency is that there is nowhere to hide if you are underperforming. Having said that, as you know, the internal culture is extremely supportive so there’s no chance anyone is singled out negatively for this. 3. Salary Our salaries and commission are at market or thereabouts with annual reviews (or often more frequently). We know this is true because we use Nigel Harse’s Industry Salary Benchmarking report as well as regularly compare with other agencies. 4. Lack of Diversity I don’t believe this is a statement based in fact even though you haven’t specified the kind of lack of diversity. Not only is Diversity & Inclusion one of our core values, just take a look around our office and you can witness the diversity. Agreed we are possibly a little light on male representation at the moment but we always believe in the best person for the job. 5. Turnover It is true that recently turnover has been higher than we’d like. We’ve made some mistakes including promoting people before they were ready to lead and that has contributed to the turnover. BUT - We’re working hard on fixing it including introducing a new Executive Director and part of her mandate is ensuring we have the right people in the business in the right roles. As a smaller firm it can sometimes feel more pronounced when someone leaves and every person that does not ‘make it’ (especially via underperformance) I take personal responsibility for – the buck stops with me. There is no doubt recruitment is a very challenging career. It’s an awesome job and the rewards are great but many people are not up to it or sometimes the specific environment is not right. During Covid19 we are all under a lot of stress, pressure and uncertainty – including me. Having said that, as you know we have kept salaries at almost 100% the entire time (except for Management which has taken the biggest hit and I personally have not taken a salary until everyone else is back to 100%, we have remote working options for all, we have up-to 6 weeks annual leave, loads of office perks (some of which you’ve mentioned). In return, all I ask is that you do your best for yourself, your colleagues and me. Finally, I’m sorry that you feel your experience is only worth 1 star after all the support and opportunities given. Regardless, I wish you the very best for the future!

    Pros

I loved working at Cox Purtell for it is a company that allows you to be yourself and will work to your strengths. They appreciate the time and commitment, and are a rewarding and giving company. They offer continuous training and growth opportunities, as well as movement within the company. A generous wellness program and they are always open to feedback. Management is supportive but doesn't micromanage.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time and don't have any complaints about working at Cox Purtell.

I worked at Cox Purtell full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Cox purtell does a great job at providing a great work/life balance with their employees but also make work FUN to come to each day. They are always finding ways to market, build a solid team, and show appreciation to employees, clients, and candidate alike. They definitely are a cut above the rest and strive to make their clients and candidates feel special and well taken care of. They put a lot of effort in building strong relationships with clients and strive to meet their hiring needs.

    Cons

speak kindly about others you are trying to help.

I worked at Cox Purtell full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I worked at Cox Purtell for over 6 years. I had the opportunity to work with different managers in different roles during this time. Two of my roles were newly created as the business saw a need to change as the market changed. The innovative approach was refreshing. I didn’t feel stagnant and felt supported the time I was there. They always listened, and were open to feedback and change. I made some life long friendships and learnt valuable lessons whilst there.

    Cons

A lot of internal meetings that weren’t necessary. Some management should actively pick up the phone and be actively engaged in sales calls. A little top heavy, that needs to be flipped.

I worked at Cox Purtell full-time

    Pros

Cox Purtell is a family. It is a collaborative, kind and nurturing environment where no question is a stupid question and junior through to senior consultants are all given the same level of respect and trust. The induction process is thorough and executed exceptionally well. From day one you are made to feel welcome and part of the team. I went on board with zero industry experience and was never afraid made to feel like an outsider. The commission structure was great. The different teams work openly across different jobs and share client and candidate connections. The offices are beautiful and in a great location. CP never ignores an opportunity to celebrate or spend time bonding, meaning there are always fun events or activities going on. James Purtell is a brilliant CEO, he is approachable and level headed. There is never a time that I would feel uncomfortable discussing a situation with him. He will always make time for each individual within the company.

    Cons

Honestly, my time at CP was brilliant. They have hit the nail on the head with the appropriate balance of work hard/play hard. There isn't a downside.

I worked at Cox Purtell full-time

    Pros

Fantastic co workers who are genuinely supportive to new staff and want to see you succeed. Management will go out of their way to ensure you have all the tools you need to be successful. Great office location and fair remuneration. Plenty of experienced staff happy to share their knowledge. Options for work/life balance such as work from home and early finishes/late starts when needed.

    Cons

Recruitment 'business as usual' workflow can be draining, sometimes repetitive and is an extremely competitive industry. Not a con of 'Cox Purtell' as such but rather the industry, but is the only negative I can think of.

    Pros

A cheerful and relaxed environment to work in. Cox Purtell is a fast-paced company, modern and always evolving, yet employee morale is constantly top of the list! Meeting new people every day and helping them to achieve their goals is extremely rewarding, and helps you to leave the office with a sense of fulfillment. It seems strange to describe my role as fun, but it really was!

    Cons

The only downside was having to leave CP and Sydney.
