I worked at Daily Mail and General Trust full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Experience, better pay than most online papers, if you can survive here you can work anywhere.

    Cons

Irregular working hours, rota can change at a moments notice and you might not be told, you'll be working at 7am one week and doing lates till 2am the next, say goodbye to Christmas, it's impossible to plan anything in the future like attending weddings etc because they do the rota ad hoc. Atmosphere is stressful, although there are some decent people there, the editors have a lot of pressure on them so expect to be on...

    Advice to Management

Too many people scheduled to work over Christmas, don't need them.

I worked at Daily Mail and General Trust full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Learned a lot from really smart, talented people. Trusted early on with a large project. Managers were great (apart from one, who no longer works there)

    Cons

The salary is a bit low. Someone might be on £18k, while someone in a similar position might be £38k. I get that some are more experienced but maybe promote them to a senior member 9f staff. Some staff openly state they don't want to share information, as they'll lose value in the company and face no repercussions. You shouldn't hire people that aren't team players.

    Advice to Management

Reward people that go above and beyond and recognise the hard workers. Notice who don't put in much work and think about getting rid of toxic people.

I worked at Daily Mail and General Trust full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Terrible reputation aside, DMGT's status in regards to the business itself is shaky. Poor public perception and unstable business environment are valid reasons to turn the other direction, but please hear this: DMGT'S CURRENT STATUS/SITUATION MAKES THIS INSTITUTION VULNERABLE TO SUBSTANTIAL INTERNAL TRANSFORMATION. The only way to ensure that DMGT undergoes real transformative growth is to put yourself in a position...

    Cons

While I don't know for sure, I think I would be kidding myself if I believed a former role at a DMGT brand on my resumé didn't exclude me from the consideration of certain employers. I do not understand why, despite me being a young person who's proactive and outspoken in regards to my views and values, a potential employer is content to automatically assume I stand in line with the views and behaviors I so desperately...
