I worked at Dollar Bank full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Entry level positions. -No education or experience required -A more prestigious type of retail -Very good insurance -Old style feel

    Cons

-Churn and burn employment -Inexperienced and uneducated management. The company still employs the "Good Cop Bad Cop" style of management. -Managers promote infighting in the office. Often times they will ask for gossip that will show up on other peoples reviews. -Company was founded in 1885, and still feels generally the same. Innovation is a dirty word. Suggesting ways to increase efficiency or improve service... met with heavy resistance.

    Advice to Management

Some basic training in HR for the management would benefit greatly, even simple steps such as reading "The Peter Principle" Young employees are often treated as second class citizens, and are often left out of the innovation process. Listen to your more valuable resources and try to improve functions within the company.

I have been working at Dollar Bank full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of the employees and regular customers are very friendly and welcoming and make you feel like family you build a lot of relationships that you'll take with you after leaving the company

    Cons

It is very stressful upon hiring they tell you, you can not get fired if you don't make your goals which is not true they constantly get on you to meet your goals like the much bigger banks but they don't want to pay bonuses or incentives then if you do meet your goal they're still not satisfied, management plays favorites a lot and the gossip is worse than high school staff is overworked and underpaid and not... appreciated the company cares more about money than its own employees great bank to use as a stepping stone to other banks but not somewhere to stay

    Advice to Management

Management should learn how to speak to the staff as well as make them feel appreciated as well as not showing favoritism to some employees also know how to say good job when someone meets their goals instead of do more

I have been working at Dollar Bank full-time

    Pros

Dollar Bank is an excellent bank to get your foot in the door, learning the ins and out of banking and excellent job security. The bank has never laid anyone off, which is a huge bonus along with the fact the pressure is less since it is a mutual bank. Also, the training and benefits are excellent along getting to know many people in the bank since it is a smaller bank.

    Cons

There are opportunity advancements, but Dollar Bank seems behind the times with outdated management styles. Individual thought seems discouraged here along with giving employees a sense of autonomy. Essentially, there are too many chiefs and not Indians to put it best. Employees seem to be closely watched by both branch and upper management. Training is excellent but not realistic when put into practice and... often rushed far too often.

    Advice to Management

Instead of micromanaging employees, branch and upper management need to loosen the reins to give employees more power to make decisions. Management seems to have a complacent attitude and disconnect towards employees. In one of my training classes, the instructor mentioned "you will never get rich working here." The apathy from lower and upper management I think contributes heavily to high employee turnover along... with lower pay compared to other financial institutions.

I have been working at Dollar Bank full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Working at Dollar Bank isn't terrible. It's a fairly easy job, and coworkers are friendly. When you have a question about a procedure or policy there are numerous people in support departments that can be called upon, unlike bigger banks that have everything on an intranet page. Also, the benefits are great for a small company.

    Cons

Senior management has changed, and moving in a more sales oriented envirioment without any incentive for meeting sales goals. Also, branch employees are tightly micromanaged by upper-management and security. Much of the decision making has been removed from branch employees, who now have to call someone in upper-management or security to get "approval" to do a simple task. Pay is also not competitive with other... banks.

    Advice to Management

Loosen the reigns a little, and trust your employees. Micromanaging employees only hurts morale and productivity.

I have been working at Dollar Bank

    Pros

It's a great company to work for, everyone is always very nice and welcoming. Job security is great here and they have been around for a long time. There is always room for promotion and they help you to get where you would like to be. They have a lot of great benefits and the hours that you work are also a bonus and banks are closed for most holidays so it is extra paid days off! Also, I love that they are very... focused on customer service rather than strictly on the amount of business.

    Cons

I wish that I made more money there but I understand there is give and take with every job and other banks that pay more have rediculous and strict goals for their employees that can lead to termination if not met.
