Pros
A lot of freedom, pay was good, offsites and travel were fun, people were generally good. Layoff was great, had been thinking about jumping ship anyway and the severance was generous due to Shopify ownership
Cons
Crazy software organization. Every team was silo'd but each one was working on some different version of the same thing. There wasn't much leadership going on, just a bunch of people who had been there for a long time at the top. Bottlenecks left and right on devops who were not the kindest people not only because of that but they had the leverage to behave that way. I felt all this before the layoff. I really have no hard feelings about being laid off I was pleasantly surprised by it.
