Wonderful company culture with demonstrated dedication to diversity & inclusion and community service. On the white collar side, all workers I encountered across many functions were humble, respectful, and collaborative. On the blue collar side, there is strong union representation (and a positive corporate attitude towards unions as well). Great benefits, better pay compared to any other employer in Columbus, and lots of flexibility on remote work and work/life balance is the norm on the white collar side.
Cummins tends to manage downturns with large temporary employee forces and reducing headcount across the business. A long career with Cummins will mean managing expectations and surviving layoffs every 5-10 years when there is market upheaval/recessions. Ethically, it can be difficult to accept how much money is still being made on Cummins products in ecologically damaging industries, or the fact that engines are sold with lower emissions standards in countries where governments haven't put stringent emissions protections in place for their citizens.Continue reading
