Hard to learn or progress
General ManagerCurrent EmployeePros
Generous free food, undemanding standards, colleagues friendly, time to exercise and socialise. Total pay seems relatively high and at the top well above what the same people could earn elsewhere. The sales department is effective so the firm still has enough assets for now despite recent performance.
Cons
The standard of systems and of management of trading, risk, and research seem low. Managers mostly seem to be chosen for not standing up to the founder and having low chance of leaving more than for performance or knowlege or insight. They use bloomberg chat to blame mistakes and results on the absent CEO. More qualified people leave for better options or are frustrated or forced out. Investment seems based on picking up consensus views from banks, who see us as easy to take advantage of. Performance and morale and reputation seem in decline. It is hard to learn or progress.

Pros
Highly intelligent staff, people work hard, generally very nice and collegial.
Cons
The head of the firm is a tremendous business builder. Savvy at marketing. But should step away from the day to day investment management decisions
