Pros

One of few PaaS focused on data management Based in Cambridge UK, great location for networking As first job in bioinformatics it can open the door to other jobs in the domain Some colleagues are great

Cons

CEO has no business education or experience, no commercial leadership CEO-centric instead of customer-centric After nine (9) years the company is still not profitable and completely depends on private investment to survive You will learn things that help you understand Genestack's technology, but you could have spent the same time learning big data and data science skills in more established, bigger and better managed companies. Ultimately you need a very good reason to join Genestack instead of one of the many alternatives at this level. And some of these alternatives are much younger than Genestack.

Pros

Some colleagues are wonderful people. They were the ones holding everything together.

Cons

At first, the experience was excellent — there was a wonderful team, and despite all the difficulties, there was a sense of support and unity. After major changes, everything started falling apart. Management was weak, decisions were strange, and people didn’t feel safe or secure. Laying off many great people caused an outpouring of outrage. The way the layoffs were handled was complete trash. The CEO’s wife is incompetent but makes many important decisions.

Pros

Some of the colleagues are nice. Remote working available.

Cons

Pay is much lower than industry standard No career progression opportunities or training Very few customers so business reliant on renewals. Cancellation of one or two may put in jeopardy (again). Genuine lack of care in staff wellbeing. Solution to most problems seems to be redundancy. Lack of willingness to try new approaches - or even industry standard ones! Read the reviews (many positive ones are “encouraged” to try and boost star ratings - It’s the COO’s way or nothing. Constant shifts in direction according to customer whims or latest trendy buzzword rather than focus on actual strengths. Very Russian centric culture - if you’re not Russian or don’t speak Russian don’t expect to feel anything other than secondary citizen.
