It may be ILM but it's still a big corporate vfx studio

    Pros

    - They get A-list projects. - Good pay and benefits. - Some seriously smart and talented people. - Decent hardware and resources. - Located in the city, not the suburbs. - ILM management reasonably open and honest about what's going on. - Great on your resume. - All the Star Wars crap you could ever want.

    Cons

    - Proprietary software that is sometimes great but often frustrating. - Can be very corporate, especially where parent company (Lucasfilm), legal or HR is involved. - It's big and you can never know everything that is going on. - More Star Wars crap than you could ever want. If you are a software type try and get hired into production rather than the R&D department. They have been turning into a parody of organizational dysfunction over the last couple of years and you will be happier and have more interesting work in production.

    Pros

Talented people, cutting edge tools, often high profile projects, incredible history, you will be surrounded by props and reminders of ILM's golden age.

    Cons

Low pay for the bay area, management is toxic and exceedingly political and divisive with the worst offenders frequently rising to the top roles. Speaking out is discouraged and those that do face being ousted and blacklisted. Employment is transient with most roles being contract. As a result workers are expendable and treated poorly. Even full time employees can be asked to take unpaid leave during slow times. Opportunities for career and pay growth are limited in such a environment.
