Pros
Will take in people who don’t have CS degrees but have STEM degrees and train them. Training as a developer. Bench period is nice and chill for the most part. They gave me a ~2k bonus for doing well during my first year in my contract position. Resume booster to show you have experience.
Cons
If they can’t find a job for you then they’ll just let you go. They give you a broad role like Associate so that they can have you do anything from Software Development to Application Support. Not much communication about what roles I’d get during bench. Months without contact about roles. Not much choice in what roles you get. When you get a job even if it’s not what you expected or wanted you still have to put in the time and work. Too much evening work as tech support. Not much communication between myself and my manager.
