Pros

The company name can help on a CV. Can't see any more.

Cons

This was honestly the worst professional experience I’ve had. The finance environment felt stuck in the past. Systems were outdated and often unreliable, and a lot of the work became manual workarounds and rework. Instead of fixing root causes, the culture felt like “just push through,” even when the issues were clearly structural. The management style was heavily micromanaged. Even at a senior level, there wasn’t much trust or autonomy, and it felt like time was spent feeding updates and managing perceptions rather than being empowered to improve performance or processes. Leadership was also a major disappointment. Across both Montreal and Cayman, I experienced senior managers who didn’t bring much direction or value, and who focused more on control and optics than building a modern, effective finance function. Work-life balance was consistently poor. Long hours were not occasional peak periods; they felt like the default. And when those hours are mainly driven by broken systems and inefficient processes, it becomes exhausting fast. If you’re looking for a modern finance function with strong leadership, clear priorities, and a healthy culture, this is not it.
