Pros

Commissions, room for advancement. You have a base rate plus labor bonuses for virtually everything you do in the shop. EDIT: they lied about my pay, and they lied about my hours. I don't earn a book rate OR commission, because I just got paid today and all my work is suspiciously absent. I'm also being made to work 32 instead of 27 hours. We recently got a new manager who refuses to let me rest, despite that I had agreed with the previous manager, the one who had hired me, that I needed to sit and rest on occasion due to my weight. He has also been rather cruel to me, telling me to find something to do when not working on a car, only to turn around and berate me for my choice of activity. Another coworker regularly harasses and humiliates me, while the managers do nothing. As a fresh hire, it is doubtful any complaints I register with HR will be taken seriously, and will probably just get me fired. I'd like to kill my self at this point but it will probably just give my manager something to laugh about.

Cons

Corporate policy can be overly stifling at times. Most of their "benefits" often don't work at all or may even cost you more money. Everything is decidedly poor. It is now hard to find any joy in my work. I used to really like it, I truly did.

Pros

The competitive pay. Thats about it

Cons

The whole guarantee system. Management, equipment. To anyone who decides to go to pepboys as a flat rate tech, they changed the guarantee system to where if you're not efficient, you only get what you flagged. So if management is bad, the location is bad and its slow, it gets rough. Prior it was a guaranteed pay based on you hitting 40 hours. Their excuse was people "abusing" which is really backwards thinking. If you're starting out, I recommend Firestone. The pay might be slightly worse but you'll have a guarantee of at least 30 hours. Also management at my location seems content only doing tires and flat repairs that hit budget. All while I have to come to them to see if my ticket got sold or if the fleet company approved of the work.
