The company is so unable to hire good talent, that it needs to hire kids fresh out of college - often with no background in Computer Science - and lie outright about their level of experience to its clients.
Excuses are made for toxic managers, and lower-level employees are not listened to. One manager had numerous problems with employees, so much so, that he caused a candidate to break down during an interview. Another time, he demeaned an employee in front of the client, causing the client to threaten to drop the company. Because the CEO only listens to the higher-level employees, this manager was able to tell him only his own version of events, and the employee he demeaned was threatened with firing.
Toxicity is rife within the company, and backstabbing is encouraged. The company also does not have a modern understanding of how tech companies operate. One employee worked hard for two hours and decided to take a 15 minute break to grab a drink at a local bar. This was reported inside the company as his having snuck out to get a drink when he was supposed to be working. In my case, because I kept a browser tab open while I was working to check for incoming emails or Linkedin updates, another coworker reported that I was spending all my time applying for jobs while I was supposed to be working, and the company illegally docked my pay because of it. The reality is that the market was such that it would have been very easy for me to find employment if this had been the case, and I was onsite with the client most days of the week, and surely the client would have been more upset than a fellow coworker if they had been misbilled for work. Neither of these facts was relevant to the management, who wanted any excuse to get out of paying their employees for their work. I have reported this company to the Attorney General of Massachusetts for the fraud it is committing against both its clients and its employees.
Employees are not treated like human beings. In one case, such a severe snow storm happened that the city's transportation was impacted for weeks. Two employees were coming in from so far away, that it took them four hours to come into the office and four hours to go back, yet they were told they could not work from home, and had to be in the office every day. Another time, employees were expected to work on a holiday after the building manager had turned the heat off.
The company finds little ways to mistreat its employees. Even though its headquarters are in Boston, it is registered in NC so that the health insurance it provides only meets NC standards, but not MA standards, leaving its employees to foot the tax penalties themselves. It also expects employees to sign contracts forfeiting recruitment fees from their final paycheck if they leave in less than a year, even though this is illegal. I have also met recruiters who this company worked with, and then tried to get out of paying.
Job growth is non-existent. You will be lied to about what you will get to work on, and placed on projects with no opportunity for growth, in order to make the company money.
The slightest utterance made in front of the client will get you in trouble, and you will be told that perfectly normal behavior is somehow unprofessional. Behind closed doors, the company's CEOs and managers compete to make the most offensive jokes about minorities or women, and laugh at how foolish their clients are.
