Recurly is a case study in poor management. There major culture issues. Consistent dishonesty and a lack of self awareness paired with big egos in upper management make for a very uncomfortable workplace. Immoral and sycophantic behavior is rewarded and HR complaints do not appear to be regularly acted upon.
Unprofessional behavior has become the norm and the place often feels amateurish. During the acquisition by AKKR every person with a stake in the company received sensitive documents containing employee and customer information. Gong access is loose with 1-1’s, people quitting and a host of other meetings being readily available for broad consumption, this is inappropriate.
The product is mediocre and lacks the kind of investment that competitors have made, this is partially due to the haemorrhaging of talent which has resulted in engineering teams triaging implementations instead of meeting feature commits. Internal processes and tools are rolled out without any kind of change management or focus groups which results in stalled deals, inefficient processes and ultimately lost revenue and staff attrition. The strategy of rolling out features in an mvp format has led to the platform doing lots of things to a mediocre standard.
Weekly monologues from the ceo are deflating to morale. It’s disrespectful to demand this amount of people’s time and not prepare what you’re going to say.
