Pros

Abundant opportunities for coaching and training. Professional development is emphasized.

Cons

I do not recommend working at STEM Prep. The environment is very toxic to students, teachers and staff. Some teachers are given no curriculum and work 60+ hours a week because they have to create curriculum, then are criticized for not getting lesson plans uploaded in advance. The teacher's time is not respected, so work/life balance is not possible. There are school-wide meetings every single morning and after school meetings multiple times a week. The teachers spend lunch standing up monitoring cafeteria every day. During planning period the teacher has bathroom duty and more meetings. There is no time to have a break or plan lessons. Teachers are constantly criticized no matter how hard they work. No time to talk to colleagues. The children's social emotional needs are not respected: they are meant to be completely silent from the moment they enter the building to the moment they leave the building. They are only allowed to talk during the 20 minute lunch break, which is quite bizarre. Naturally, this causes behavior issues. The students are clearly miserable, they say it feels like a jail.

Pros

Students have natural potential that can be developed with strong leadership, high expectations, and execution. Also, the EL model is second to none. With great execution, this model will see great results. (English classes have two teachers: Core ELA teacher and a EL specialist)

Cons

Learning Stage Leadership Somewhat Incompatible Systems Compliance Oriented (Good/Bad) Inexperienced Teachers (Biggest issue) Poor Benefits Low Student/Parent Accountability
