Pros
There are some great people who work for this company and they make it a little easier to handle everything else because you feel that "you're in this together." This is a very family-oriented family-first driven company and the founding family has a lot of family members to keep employed. It isn't uncommon to find in your department one of the grandchildren of the company's founder. They allow those family members a small taste of what "the real working world is like." A few of those family members are worth getting to know. The benefits are ok. The 401k benefits are pretty good and improved over the years. Instead of doing an annual or monthly discrimination orientation, they allow their employees to read the guidelines and rules on discrimination (and whatever else the hot topic was that month) and answer several questions - this was your "agreement" that you were not being discriminated against. They do a Christmas Party where they rent out part of the movie theater for the employee and four family members to view the movie for free. There is a Halloween costume contest and a cash prize in a few categories. They are building a new office complex - which is overdue since the old buildings are very outdated and cramped for space. There are several vending machines and one of them offers healthier snacks.
Cons
This is a very family-oriented family-first driven company and the founding family has an awful lot of family members to keep employed. They are really good at nepotism and having more management then lower-level workers. The lower-level employees, as a result, get a lot of the workload (because it is hard to say "no, I'm overworked" to someone "in the family" without the fear of putting your job at risk and knowing full well that you're not being paid as much as any of the younger family members in the same position who are working their way up the management chain). It is hard to keep employed really great, non-family employees for very long. Sometimes even those very few non-family employees who make it to a higher level position end up being fired to take the fall for something another person did - so it makes it hard to want to strive for a long-term position at this company if you're not a direct member of the founding family. The mid-level management, at least some years ago, was known for their ability to gossip and make fun of anyone who claimed to have been harassed or mistreated. It made it tough to want to speak up. Their HR dept and mail room dept is run by some great people but they aren't treated as though they have much value - it was sad to see.
