I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great standard vacation packages, which increase quickly with tenure. Fantastic set of coworkers (at least, in my office). I made several friends which I still have today, years after I left the company.

Cons

Little to no work/life balance. Dictatorial upper middle-management, with egos the size of Alaska. A little bit low for market value on salaries.

Advice to Management

Simply realize that you were a proletariat once too...

I have been working at The Hartford full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Despite all the change currently happening, there are still plenty of opportunities within the remaining lines of business. Managers are generally supportive and the company seeks to excel in its strengths. The stock performance over the past year has been a good indicator of the company's better positioning within the markets and will continue to show strength.

    Cons

Functions can be feel siloed, i.e. lines of communication between groups and functions tends to be limited. Divestitures have caused some turmoil and ill-feeling, which should subside over the next year.

    Advice to Management

Communication has been good, and the divestitures were handled well. It's hard to appease everyone when there is so much change, and I'd say it was handled well.

    "Beware the company in transition."

I worked at The Hartford full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I had some great moments with The Hartford; when the company was willing to take some risks there was a great chance to innovate. The sales force (esp mutual funds and annuities) were top-notch.

    Cons

Senior management lacks vision and recently has been guided more by activist shareholders than real strategy. People who are lazy and refuse to take accountability can hide in the ranks. The performance review systems is a joke.
