Pros
The pay can be a tad complicated. If you're stationed in a high cost-of-living area you'll get more Base Allowance for Housing pay. Also the longer you're in the more each rank makes, so the ranks do not have a static pay. I enjoyed the vast majority of my 20 years in the military.
Cons
When you get a bad boss you had better hope your leadership doesn't suck as well. Normally they don't, and they'll help. Rarely though they don't help, this happened to me. You can't just quit. That's one of the sacrifices you make.
