I have been working at Virginia Mason full-time

    Pros

Decent pay compared to other labs. Feel secure in job because they can't really afford to let anyone go due to the already high turnover.

    Cons

High turnover, low moral, poor management, no sense of direction. No real upward mobility or career growth opportunities. Equipment frequently isn't working correctly or broken, frequently run out of supplies due to either back orders or not ordering in time. The lab is a real mess and lacks any real leadership. Management is out of touch and doesn't seem to really care that the entire department is feeling defeated and unhappy.

    Advice to Management

Get some real leadership that is dedicated to learning how the department works from the employee level. Make sure this leadership is good at assessing and tracking goals and progress and creating an actual team. So far the only team building exercise seems to be the bond we all have over being miserable and feeling hopeless.
