The company environment is highly chaotic and toxic, which stems from a leadership team who knows very little about the actual mechanics of the business but tries to make up for this via endless pressure and micro-management, which is especially true in the Product Engineering function. The VPs are constantly pushed to the limits and we in turn have to turn the screw on our directors and senior managers, which creates a terrible culture of never-ending stress and feelings of guilt if we don’t work until we burn out.
The worst thing is that the leadership team and senior team pretend that everything is fine, and we often fool ourselves into a false sense of positive belief in the future of the company (which I myself am guilty of too). While we try our best to celebrate in the moment, once the dust settles we return to chaos and toxic office politics.
The business is built on a very shaky tech foundation and the unit economics aren't great, which causes the leadership team to show little empathy towards subordinates.
Attrition is high among the SLT, which is unsurprising. Good people don’t stay long.
