Pros

Great snacks in London Bridge kitchen - totally nailing it on this, keep up the good work in Canary Wharf. Some really good people, although most of the good ones now have an exit strategy (author included)

Cons

Salaries and benefits are subpar. Management come up with a new elaborate spin every fortnight on how actually Zopa is somehow way ahead of the curve (I eagerly await to see which version they reply to this with), but the facts are quite plain. People are treated poorly. Senior members of tribes have been 'disappeared' with almost no notice. Essentially money is being chucked at people to make them go; which is symptomatic of the basic lack of respect for individuals that the company serially displays. Actions speak loader than empty rhetoric; Zopa is certainly not "in it together". C-suite have a very casual approach with regard to the truth. They are quite content with making reassuring statements which a matter of weeks later are proven to be untrue, and yet will never ever recognise the discrepancy. Case in point - colleagues in the POS tribe were being addressed by the CEO in Spring, who assured them Zopa was totally committed to the operation in Newcastle-under-Lyme. By the start of Summer they were all at risk of redundancy because that office was being closed. Similar things happened when the QAs were summarily disposed of in 2024. Products are pretty poor. Proprietary technology is pretty thin on the ground, every product depends on a different BaaS application and consequentially the experience for customers is a disjointed mess. Everything is sacrificed on the altar of getting stuff done quickly and lessons are not learned. Tech debt is endemic. Despite the above, people are constantly made to feel as though their personal contributions are below the level of perfection Zopa demands. Established members of teams are being told they are underperforming despite working their guts off to try and make the impossible happen. Newcomers are being charged by managers with reviewing the performance of their established colleagues. If this isn't a toxic culture, then I honestly don't know what is.

Pros

Very good work life balance, you don't hear about people working beyond 5PM other than on the week of new product launches and it's usually made up to those involved pretty well. Nice new office although it feels like we've outgrown it already at times. Some upper management seem very energetic

Cons

Despite the energy the company feels a bit directionless. There's a vague goal of "home of money" but that doesn't really connect with me in terms of actual direction for the company. The company is moving towards AWS with typescript but still focusing on hiring Kotlin developers, but we don't really have TS developers who could do the interviewing. There's a big push to AWS serverless but people are confused when you say you're adopting it?
