Pros

It's exciting to work at a company that is constantly innovating its products. Company is growing and just received its first round of VC. Office has cute dogs.

Cons

The first red flag was when my manager told me unprompted during my first week on the job that if he was ever acting irritated while training me, to call him out on it. How a "leader" could be hired into a management role who doesn't have the maturity to regulate his own emotions in the workplace is beyond me. In the months that followed, I was disrespected, spoken to in a condescending and, at times, threatening manner by this manager. 85% of my time here consisted of being criticized and shamed for my skill level. Even though they knew they were hiring a junior engineer, I received virtually no mentoring, no training support (this is true as well for most other teams), and no peer programming. To top it off, the learning environment was extremely unsafe - reprimanded for making mistakes and not allowed to ask questions. Others on the team agree that they feel uncomfortable around this manager. However, when this issue was brought up to higher leadership, his behavior was excused as being his "personality" and that it wouldn't ever change. FYI - shutting down voices that bring up issues that don't feed your narrative of Engrain being a great place to work is in turn fostering a toxic environment. Instead, hire leaders that possess an iota of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, otherwise the pattern of mental health declining and people dropping like flies on this team will continue. Offer women and juniors a seat at the table, or they will find a different table to sit at where they will be valued.

Pros

- Decent benefits & 401K match - Annual growth stipend - Rotating beers on tap

Cons

- High turnover (huge red flag) - No formal training and the internal knowledge base is severely outdated - Interdepartmental communication is aggressive if things aren't done to their (unwritten) standards - CEO does not support working remotely, and department heads are too scared to voice against that (Isn't 'Trust' one of the company values?)

Pros

- Free beer on tap - Puzzle table

Cons

- No diversity and inclusion -Embarrassingly underpaid (except if you’re an executive or a sales person. They’re payed $100k+) - Management - No room for growth - Rude about being out sick - COVID protocols were only followed for about 4 months before they let unvaccinated unmasked execs trickle back into the office, without anyone else’s knowledge - You can be openly queer, but only if you’re a cis gay man and not directly involved in any DEI work - You do the work of 3 people and get fired when you ask for a raise - Everything
